I have an old Ampex CVR-75. We have a grey stripe that runs down the left 1/3'rd of the screen. Not solid grey, rather a loss of color in the image. I have tried pulling out all the cards and puting them back in again. I cleaned the heads and nothing. Any idea on what would cause this? If it is a card issue, which card should I look at?
First look under your console there is a timer with display, check T2 and if it is more than 3000h(300x10) you'll have to replace the upper drum. But FIRST;FIRST you need a service manual specially volumen 2 its the same for sony BVW75.
Next you need two extender boards, two channel osciloscop with two probes and if its possibile test tapes. As you described you have problem in luma chain, one of heads is or dead or its signal is too low.You can check it on DM56 board TP3 as I remember and second probe is trigering on TP901.You should get 0,7volts packetes for two heads(DT select to OFF)adjusting for ch-A is RV3,and for ch-B RV4.Step2 is to set DT select to VAR and check 0,7volts on same TP.Adjusting is RV2 for ch-A and RV7 for ch-B.Then go to TP101 on same board and adjust Y AGC output level to 1V with RV101
Same procedure is for the chroma chain TP505 DT select to OFF.Chroma level is 0,6V and adjusting is RV502 for ch-A and RV505 for ch-B.Set DT select to VAR and check 0,6V.Adjusting is RV501 for ch-A and RV504 for ch-B.Then go to TP508 and adjust C AGC output to 1V with RV512.Trigering is TP902
All adjustements are in playback mode with aligment tape CR5-1B PS playing flat field signal
All measurements are with osciloscope
If you can't get those values replace upper drum and try again (you'll need micrometer to center it)
If pockets are not streight (have deformations) you have to do tape run alignment
I repeat NOTHING of these can be done without extender board

If you are capturing HD, go into the menu > IN/OUT REC > i.LINK CONV and set it to off, and A/V->DV OUT to off. Go into FCP and go to the File Menu and select "easy setup". In the easy setup menu set the "Format" to "HDV" and set "Use" to HDV - 1080i60. Click "Setup". Now go to File > Log and Capture (command-8). You're now set to capture. Just queue your tape and hit "Capture Now" or set in and out points and capture "Clip".
If you want to capture SD footage, then on your Sony unit, go to the menu and set the i.LINK CONV to "on". In the easy setup menu you will want to set "Format" to "NTSC" and "Use" to DV-NTSC".
I would say that it's because you haven't used the original test tape. Where the recordings that play up done on the model before the problems started? If so then that would prove that the tape is just slightly off. I can't see it being a fake head, nobody would make any money doing fake VHS heads these days!
I found one on Diplodocs. Click here to open the page. You will find the download link on the top right box. After you click on the link it will ask you to rate the product or enter a code. After that the manual's your. And of course its free.
Its 4.3 MB in size and if you still can't access it let me know and I'll download it and upload it on Rapidshare.
dear this error is related to the moisture .u need to check the conditon under which ur using this vtr.just keep your vtr ON for 20 to 30 mins , and then press the reset button on the left bottom of the vtr with oil pin or so.
Check the power supply area for the fuses for one. Second, the power supplies in these units are switch mode supplies that require a jump start from a small cap. It is possible that the "starter cap" is defective. There are other reasons for this type of behavior as well. Keep us posted on what you find.
it is a matte of TBC lack
your editter don't produce tbc signals with the video out
you need to install a tbc board
