Hi, what brand and model CD player is this, and how old? Does this happen with all discs, or just certain ones?

First; try blowing into the DVD reader, sometimes it is just a hair. also try a DVD cleaner disc. Check if the drive spins up correctly, and "listen". If it's spnning but having trouble reading you will hear a whizzing sound as it tries different speeds.

Marantz cd5001 stopped playing in mid-stream. Now inserting disc makes no laser clicking/noises, not reading. I have part with laser out, it's a sony laser attached to a metal plate SM213CCM then below...

Hi Robert,

Before you replace the optical lens try this first.
If you have necessary tools and test instruments, know safety precaution in basic troubleshooting try the steps below to solve your problem.
Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. - Sometimes because of dust the lens can't read any disc. Try clean the lens by soft cotton buds. Be careful while doing this.
2.Replace the ribbon - Check the ribbon connected to the lens from the main board for scratch, damage. Once it has an open line then of course the lens can't read the disc. Also try to erase the contact by pencil eraser. If you've done the steps above and the symptoms still there then the next step requires you a little knowledge in soldering technique and reading the ohmmeter.
3.Check the motor - Check the motor that spin the disc with an ohmmeter. You can test it using the ohmmeter (x1) even it is connected on the lens assembly.Good motor - reading should be fairly high and it will spin. Bad motor- reading will drop to low resistance and will not spin.
Hint : 50% of my repaired unit the above parts are commonly caused of the problem.
If you confirmed that you have a defective motor then replace it with a new one. Before replacing the new motor you have to check the clearance of the disc holder with the old one. The clearance should be the same as the old because if not the lens will not read the disc if it is too far or too close.
If the above steps didn't cure the problem, high chance that your optical lens was faulty, click this for the replacement

If you can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the symptom.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Hi, I own a VK 90D, It was satisfactory only until about 2 months back. I started gettin DVD H05 error. It became ok after i disconnected and tried again.. But only today i got error DVD H02 n no dvd...

Hi,
H02,H05,H07 is an error code in Panasonic home theater system and dvd player which appear after an unsuccessful loading of DVD,CD. This is commonly caused by a faulty lens assembly and the main board. If you want to troubleshoot it yourself, here are some basic steps that may guide you. Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. - Sometimes because of dust build up and some tiny foreign objects the lens can't read any disc.
If you already cleaned the lens, and confirmed that the ribbon is good as well as the motor then the fault is either on the optical lens and the main board. It is technical to diagnose the fault between the two, I will advice you to send it to panasonic service center to isolate the problem.
Hope it may help you.

Hi,

Your no disc error can be a DIY like the following steps.
Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. - Sometimes because of dust the lens can't read any disc. Try clean the lens by soft cotton buds. Be careful while doing this.
I've suspect that below is the caused of your problem since the disc didn't spin. You can try this if you have knowledge in electronics and have a tools and test instruments.

Ifyou already cleaned the lens, and confirmed that the ribbon is good as well as the motor then I've advice you to send it to repair shop because the next step should be done with an expert because it is quite technical diagnosing the fault between the pick-up lens and the main board.

Hope it may help you.
