Replacing thermostat for kia sportage 2002

I have a heating problem with my car and want to relace the thermostat. Please tell me where the thermostat is located? Also do you have any instructions on the replacement procedure?

    one day on the freeway i noticed a large smoke screen behind me. i pulled off the road and notcied my engine was smoking. my dashboard was not registering any engine temp at all. could this that my thermostat died? if so how do i fix?

Where top water pipe is conected to the engine - rubber hose to steel pipe-- there is 3 bolts , loosen and you will finde the thermostat. Willem SA

No heat on 02 kia sportage, a/c works great. I dont think the heater vore is bad because there is no antifreeze leaking anywhere. I changed thermostat and the radiator is full, still no heat
Follow the hoses to the heater core/firewall. When up to temp, both lines should hot, about the same temp. To hot to keep your hand on for to long. If one is a lot cooler, it's the heater core. After that I would check the controller or the blend door actuator.

Why my Kia Sportage 2002 will tend to heat up when running and the coolant is thrown outside radiotor
remove the thermostat and see if it still does the same. if it does, then you have a blown head gasket or a cracked head. if the temperature stays low without a thermostat and it does not throw coolant out then replace the thermostat with a new one.

sounds to me like they have removed your thermostat as this is a real good indicatiopn of that. if you dont have one in the temp of your water stays really low as it is always moving unlike when thermostatically controlled where heat opens the valve. either way the car should be fine but will need it replacing if you live realy warm climate.
