    Hi Josh

I have Driver Detective, but to no avail since laptop won't recognise the camcorder. I've tried driverguide but can't find anything. The camcorder is a JVC GR-D250.

You probably need to load a driver for the camcorder on the the computer.

Generally computers have the needed drivers but not all. Do an internet search for the driver. You will need the manufacturer of the camcorder and the model to find the correct one.

I use driverguide.com to find drivers I need.

If you want me to find the driver for you I need the Manufacturer and model of the camcorder to be of any assistance.

I found this link about your camcorder. http://www.jvc-victor.co.jp/english/down...

*7 On some PCs with specific 1394 controller, device recognition may fail.

Looks like there is no driver compatible with windows vista.

It looks like the driver should come on Windows XP and sometimes the PC will not recognized the device. It is a known problem and JVC has no solution.

Your only option may be to install an add-in card with a 1394 controller or use a different PC.

Advice was given to me to buy firewire cable as my sony handycam DCR-TRV22E wont recognize by my mac OS X ver. 10.6.6? what type of firewire shld i buy?

I'm glad to provide the information about the required firewire cable.
All Sony Camcorders are having 4 pin firewire/i.LINK port.
You can purchase a Firewire cable depends upon the number of pins available on the firewire port on the Computer.
If you have 4 pin firewire port in the Computer, you can purchase a 4 to 4 pin Firewire cable.
If you have 6 pin Firewire port in your Computer, you can purchase 4 to 6 pin i.LINK cable.
In rare cases, it may also 4 to 9 pin.
Please refer the manual of your computer or contact apple to get the information about the number of pins available on the Computer.
You may also get back to me with the model # of the Computer so that I might be able to check the pin information.
Thanks for understanding.
If you need any further assistance, please let me know..

Hi, I'm wondering if you can help, I have a Sony DCR-TRV340E camcorder and wish to take the video footage from one of the tapes and record/stream it onto my MacBook pro. I've tried using the USB cable...

*reason for not streaming the video: its because you're using the wrong type of cable to stream it to a macbook

*type of cable needed: you need a firewire cable to stream videos from your camcorder to your macbook.

*please make sure to check if your macbook has a firewire(IEEE) port on it and also make sure what type of firewire port it has( 4 pin or 6 pin firewire port)

*check your macbook specification for a firewire port and make sure to check how mny pinslot it has before buying a firewire cable.

* the other end of a firewire cable would surely fit the camcorder and the other end would depend on the firewire port available in your macbook.

* you would also be needing an application on your macbook that would record streamed videos.

Sony PC110E video camera that is not recognised by PC

Buy a 4 to 4 pin or 4to 6 firewire cable (depending of Your PC model). Connect it to PC. In any case, the system must to recognize firewire device and capture the images. If PC don't want to see Your cam via direct firewire connection it means the firewire out is broken and needs to be repaired.

Driver for DCR-HC28

It's not possible to transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Vista running Computer using a USB connection.
The Camcorder uses the USB STREAMING function to transfer the videos to the Computer. The Vista doesn't support the USB STREAMING function.
However, you may transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer using an i.LINK/FIREWIRE cable.

If your Computer has an i.LINK/FIREWIRE port on it you can connect the Camcorder to the Computer using the i.LINK/FIREWIRE cable.

The i.LINK port is a D shaped port labelled as DV, i, IEEE1394, Firewire.

If the i.LINK port on the Computer has 4 pins on it, then you can use a 4-pin to 4-pin i.LINK cable.
If the i.LINK port on the Computer has 6 pins on it, then you can use a 4-pin to 6-pin i.LINK cable.
The i.LINK port on the Sony Camcorder is a 4-pin i.LINK port.

I will forward a link to a page where you can get the steps to transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer using the i.LINK connection.

I have a JVC GR-D250 camcorder. When I connect firewire cable (that has come with the camera) to the PC it gives message "USB device not recognised". If I check the Device Manager it shows "Unknown...

You should have a DV Cable 4-pin to 4-pin firewire (part number VC-VDV204U ) which came with your camera. It would not have firewire on one end and usb on the other. They are two seperate technologies. see http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-firewire-to-usb-adapter.htm

Connecting my Sony Camcorder CCD-TRV 108 to my computer

To do this you will need a firewire cable 4 to 6 pin, here a link:
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin®-Firewire-Cable-4-Pin-6-Pin/dp/B0016W3L3O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1226166429&sr=8-3

you'll plug the 4 pin connector, that's the smaller one, into the DV port on the camera, then you'll plug the 6 pin into the computer's firewire port.
now open WMM, iMovie, Adobe Premire, whatever you are editing with:
imove: got to capture> video from camera, in the new one there should be a little button with a camera, just click that
WMM: Click record> from camera, then put your camera in playback mode, and hit record on WMM, start playing and BAM. same prcess for recording applies to pretty much all of them.

Camcorders problems

It seems you've tried some of the steps I would suggest already. However, to avoid any confusion I'll mention them anyway:

-When you connect a camcorder using DV cables, you have to use the playback mode rather than the PC Connect mode. The firewire connection is a p2p interface for streaming.

-The camcorder sometimes does not show up under "My Computer" when using DV connections as no removable drive needs to be installed. In this case, the camcorder may still be recognized and you should use the "capture" feature of whichever software you prefer.

-Most camcorders require that the AC adapter cable be used during capture operations for various reasons. If you are not connected to AC power, this could halt some functionality.

-Generally camcorders require a cable and IEEE1394 card that are OHCI compliant. Very rare you would find any that aren't, but it may be worth checking into if you're still having issues.

-Obviously, as you've mentioned, checking the device manager and BIOS configurations to ensure your hardware is operating properly was a good call.
