    Hi Josh

I have Driver Detective, but to no avail since laptop won't recognise the camcorder. I've tried driverguide but can't find anything. The camcorder is a JVC GR-D250.

You probably need to load a driver for the camcorder on the the computer.

Generally computers have the needed drivers but not all. Do an internet search for the driver. You will need the manufacturer of the camcorder and the model to find the correct one.

I use driverguide.com to find drivers I need.

If you want me to find the driver for you I need the Manufacturer and model of the camcorder to be of any assistance.

I found this link about your camcorder. http://www.jvc-victor.co.jp/english/down...

*7 On some PCs with specific 1394 controller, device recognition may fail.

Looks like there is no driver compatible with windows vista.

It looks like the driver should come on Windows XP and sometimes the PC will not recognized the device. It is a known problem and JVC has no solution.

Your only option may be to install an add-in card with a 1394 controller or use a different PC.

Acer Aspire xc600 / firewire

Hi, It is possible that your computer has no firewire connector. Look carefully by using the cable that comes with your camera and see if there is a connector that could fit with the connector, most probably on the front side of your computer. It is like a square.

Also, I send you a link explaning what is a firewire connector:

DO I REALLY NEED A FIREWIRE CARD?

If your camera is Firewire, iLink,or IEEE 1394, then you need Firewire support or a Firewire card.

If your camera has a USB symbol, or says USB anywhere in the manual, you can use USB for the functions it allows.

There is no USB to Firewire or Firewire to USB without the use of an advanced device.

How to Save a Movie From a Panasonic NV-GS11 Video Camera to a PC

Buy a firewire DV cable for your camcorder, if you don't have a firewire port, buy an adapter. If its a laptop a PCMCIA to firewire. If its a desktop PCI, to Firewire. Plug it in, google the drivers, and then use windows movie make to get the video.

I want to watch video from my camcorder on pc. My camcorder has a 4 pin ieee firewire port. How many pins does the compaq presario sr1420nx have for its ieee firewire port? Should I use 800mps cables

You are on the right track. The best way to hook your computer to your camcorder is the firewire connection. There are 4 pins on the small connection on your cam, but on the PC the firewire connection is bigger and has six pins on that end. You should get the best cable that you have access to, because speed is everything when you are dealing with video, I would get the 800mps. Just make sure to check your connections on the PC and the Cam to make sure you get the right cable.

How to connect IEEE 1394 (4 pin) to computer

IEEE 1394 is commonly referred to as Firewire. Your Dell doesn't support it. You will have to purchase a firewire adapter card and install it and its drivers into your computer.

I have new emachine laptop . I bought a usb cable with firewire-1394-4 pin to download from my gr-d240 camcorder . But laptop does not accept/recognise it ...usb is only connection on laptop

Ok, so the cam accepts firewire but the laptop doesint, you would need an add-on card, unless your laptop has firewire already, http://i12.ebayimg.com/01/i/001/26/3c/2868_1.JPG like that one if it does have one then you will just need to connect it in and install the drivers and software included with the cam i hope it helps

My PC wont recognize my panasonic NV-GS70 camcorder as a webcam, it recognises new hardware but then cannot install the DVC serial device. Think I need a driver. Any ideas?

Yes you must install a USB camera driver that came with the camcorder. If you have lost the CD, then you can go to the manufacturer's site and find it. After installing the driver, you have to set the camcorder into Webcam mode. The technique will vary from camcorder to camcorder, as explained in the owner's manual. Also do a search on your comp using something like "using camcorder as a webcam" USB camera driver for XXXX", etc. etc.
