First purchase a new aerator nut and aerator. Now spray where the nut meets the separator liberally with liquid wrench , let soak for an hr or 2 and then take a tooth brush to it at the same place. Don't try loosening it with a screw driver , use a deep well socket. Sorry I don't remember what size. if this doesn't work you can try a torch. To prevent this in the future thoroughly dry the tank after washing it and store with the aerator and nut OFF .

How do I remove the seperator to clean it?

Sometimes the separator can get stuck. Once nut is removed, take a small flat screw driver and get under the lip of the separator to remove.

Frozen seperator can't be removed

Once you have the nut removed, then take a flat screw driver and lightly pry up on the lip of separator to remove.

I can get the acorn nut off the separator but cannot get the separator off the vacuum. Can I pryn it off, or will I break it?

It's probably stuck in place by dried-on fine dirt...if the nut has been removed, don't pry it, as it's made from light material to enable the high RPMs. Lightly spray soapy water around the edge, WHILE HOLDING IT WITH THE SEPARATOR DOWN so that the water won't run into the motor. Once the dried dirt's wet, it should be removable with a gentle twist or tap. Then clean the separator with a brush and soapy water and wipe down the bowl and canister, and dry it all with a soft cloth.

My Rainbow e-series will not run. It will turn on, but it sounds like the motor is barely running for a few seconds and then it stops. It will do this over and over.

Remove the water canister and turn the motor on it's side. Try to turn the 'diffuser' device by hand--it should turn freely. If very hard to turn, then one of the motor bearings may have frozen and the plastic case must be removed to access the motor. It's likely to be the lower bearing as it is very near the water in the bottom. If you leave water standing in the unit after vacuuming for long periods, this will hasten the bearing problem. Remove the diffuser and check the pot-metal spinner device underneath to make sure parts of it aren't dragging against the outer frame--dirt and other debris will cause these parts to seize together. You can clean this space with a thin screwdriver blade if you are careful. Hope some of this helps!

I have a Rainbow E series. The separator is broken. I removed the acron nut but the separator won't come off. Is it ok to pry it off from bottom?

It's ok to pry on it if you're careful. Tap it too, use a screwdriver handle and just go around it and tap judiciously. When you're prying, be sure that if something is going to break it's the separator and not the machine housing.

Clean the shaft well before putting the new separator on, it's a pretty close fit and you don't want crud in it, and be sure the threads are clean and dry before putting the acorn nut on.

Unable to remove round filter in bottom due to bolt not secure inside vacuum and it is just spinning so I can't remove nut holding on filter, but cannot see how to remove top of vacuum to get at other end...

I am not familiar with late model Rainbow vacuum's. However, I suggest the following:

Since you havn't found out how to get to the other side, can you grab the bolt with a pair of needle nose pliers to remove???

Alternatively, press a screw driver against the bolt pressing it to the side and try to remove.

You might try to cut the bolt with a pair of dikes

It is strange that you cant change a filter without this major work.

there will likely be another volunteer question catcher take your question and has experience with this issue. Dont try mine until others have had a chance to respond.

Thanks for your interest in

May I suggest you look the machine over closely before you remove the nut and bolt assembly.

Rainbow e series

If you have the Rainbow e series, then this manual will explain exactly how to remove the separator from the wash basin and the basin from the caddy. (Please refer to page 6) A special tool is stored on the underside of the power unit next to the separator , which you can use to loosen the brass nut holding the separator.
The manual also provides instructions on how to remove the basin and clean it.

In my opinion, it is most likely a blockage in the tubes that must be causing this problem. This seems to be a common issue with this cleaner. There is also a small metal ring between the separator and basin that may be dislodged and causing this problem. Please the manual for an idea of what I am talking about.

If that does not help, then its best to contact the customer, (248) 643-7222,
Monday through Friday,
between 9:00am and 5:00pm (EST)
and ask for Customer Service.
