No Idle Occasionally, my 2007 FLHRCI will not idle unless i stay on the throttle. Start it...it dies. While riding, pull in the clutch...it dies. Usually it'll start idling again on its own in a few minutes but this last time it lasted 3 days and several hundred miles. Took it to dealer and ran fine (of course) and computer showed nothing. Any Ideas?

Yes, it has stock air cleaner, and usually (but not always) it happens when i'm in or just after a parade situation and perhaps was a little warm.

pull the air cleaner and spray carb cleaner into the carb while its running the ridle wil rise and fall with short bursts. theis will open and close the idle valve and when you are spraying it will clean it .
give that a try . i realy dont think you have a hard problem. just sticky.
good luck and dont get any carb cleaner on your paint....

    yea
the carb doesnt have an idle air control valve.
and the EFI does and that is the part that sticks.
i like the 3M brand carb cleaner and put the tube on the can so you can direst the spray into the throttle body.
lst me know if you have any problems s i might have some pictures of the throttle body. but i would have to look
let me know if you need them you shouldnt it a simple fix.
    later paul

Bike wont idle without choke

you need to take your carb off give it as good cleaning. also check your intake gaskets where the manifold joins the jugs and the black rubber one where the carb joins the manifold. You def have air/fuel problem going on. also check your vscume hose to the carb but im thinking that is not it.

New battery on new bike,it kills the batterys in 2 days

Either you have a dead short in your wireing or your battery is not charging fully. Use a volt meter your battery will have 12 volts start the bike and it should read 13 plus then take it up to 2000 rpm above idle anyway it should read 14 plus. If you dont have these numbers then you have a stator or regulator problem or both. You may be geting a slight charge when running but not enough to keep the battery peaked out.

Slow idle after getting hot

how hot is very hot? heat management will ****** idle and eventually drop a cylinder but if you are getting that hot routinely something else is going on...I'm in Phoenix, ride alot and have only been in heat management 1 or twice in the past year+

Oil Pressure

Very common on h-d big twins for the last 75 years or so. These bikes have a dry sump oil system which means you have 2 oil pumps, feed and scavenge. The feed pump is very puny compaired to the scavenge, so at idle (especially when hot) it carries only a couple of pounds of pressure and that is all you need. The scavenge pump has a much greater capacity because if it can't keep up the crancase will start filling up and the crank will start slogging through the oil, killing performance. These bikes are equipped with hydraulic valve lifters which will start clanking loudly if you have a real oil pressure problem. Enjoy your ride and don't sweat it.

Engine is poping (backfiring) when I let up throttle.

Most common cause of backfiring would be a vacuum leak....most common areas that develope leaks would be the manifold seals. I'd check there. To troubleshoot...warm up your engine and with it idling...spray some starter fluid on it and see if the engine speeds up. If it does... theres u're problem. While u're lookin around, check all your hoses for good connections and good rubber. If that doesnt do it...check your pipes for tight connection

2006 HARLEY SPORTSTER 1200 LOW

If you're talking about dieing at an idle, you can increase the idle slightly to keep this from happening. Do not increase it too much, Harley's are not designed for high idle.

2000 ultra classic

really need more info on bike, not much to go on. if it is fuel injected, the first culprit i would check is the temperature sensor. on start up, you need a richer mix and thus higher idle. if a carb bike, i would first check ignition timing because if something is mis-skewing and the advance is too much, it will idle higher
