How do I know which board is broken

I guess TV repair is a dying art cause my local guy charged me 45$ to tell me my Sampo PME-42S6 is broken, ummm, already knew that but thanks.  What I want to know is which board is broken.  He said that it need major circuit repair.  Let me explain what is wrong and maybe someone can suggest what might be wrong and how to fix it:
The TV powers on just fine.  Audio works properly and TV image works fine for a while, usually just a few minutes.  Then all of the colors start mixing.  I can still see the image, it isn't perfect, but it is still visible.  However all of the colors mix.  If I hit the back of the TV firmly, it goes back to normal.  I took off the back of the TV to see if it was anything obvious and got intimidated.
I got this TV for free because the previous owner didnt know what to make of the problem.  It has really turned into more of a project and learning experience for me than anything else.  Any hints or tips on how to diagnos the problem, please let me know where to begin.  Thank you.

OK, now I have noticed the the TV works perfect when the back of it is removed.  Only when i put the back of the TV on does the TV act up.  What could be causing that?  I think I might know but I am in denial, would a cracked board be causing this problem?

Dont be intimidated. it could be nothing more than a bad capacitor. these are easy to change. capacitors are the round little barrel looking things sticking out from the control boards. when they are bad they look fat and bulged. remove the board replace any bad components and reconect. I know it sounds simple but it just might do the trick.

Just stumbled on this site. I had the same problem [sounds the same]. It was an assembly issue. the circuit board in the middle twards the bottom was wedged in but not flat. the bend eventually caused the same type symptons. I removed the board, applied presure over a couple days, heated the board with hair dryer and finally got the board to flatten somewhat. Also had to file one edge of the board to get it to set flat in its slot. Has worked since [over 3 years]. I do not recommend doing this unless you are prepared to throw it out, since this is very unorthodxed.

Possible TV "Chop-Shop"

Hyundai and I would be surprised is Sampo use Samsung parts. They may have mixed and matched compatible parts. The Hyundai I'm working on has almost Samsung everything. I wouldn't worry too much so long as the service place has a good reputation and stands behind their work. They may have replaced a video board that had different spec ratings.

I have the exact same problem and sent an e-mail to Sampo in Taiwan today (March 3rd) with a technical explanation and description of the problem you have reported. I included information on the status of the LEDs inside the unit. My suspision is that the power distribution board has developed a fault. I am going to try to find out if a schematic is available to repair the board or if a new board can be purchased. I will provide an update when I have one. Glenn
