How to repair hard drive

Extreme slowness, repeated blue screen and noise or clicking are sometimes signs that your computer hard drive is about to crash. When you hear the sound of clicking, scraping or grinding, immediately turn off or shut down your computer. Doing so will prevent any loss of data.<br /> </li> <li> Power down and then power up. Sometimes, hard drive crashes can be easily recovered by doing a power shutdown of the computer. Then, after waiting for a couple of minutes, power it back up again. The initial hard drive crash may not be too serious, but if it happens often, start performing a full system backup, if you haven't been doing so, to be able to recover your data should the inevitable happen.<br /> </li> <li> <span> <a><img src="repair-hard-drive-crashes-1.3-120X120.jpg" /></a> jQuery(document).ready(function(){ jQuery('#jsArticleStep3 span.image a:first').attr('href','http://i.ehow.com/images/a04/8f/3a/repair-hard-drive-crashes-1.3-800X800.jpg'); }); PC cable or component connection </span> Ensure that your hard drive and other internal components are seated properly. If Steps 1 and 2 do not work, you may need to open your computer's CPU to check on some of the drive connections. Sometimes connections get dislodged, especially if you move your computer box often. The symptom will manifest as if the hard drive has crashed, giving you a "disk error" when you try to boot up your computer. First, turn off your computer and unplug it. I crashed my dell and need to re-intall windows

there is a particiam on your dell that has all the restore data on it do you have the restore disk insert it and go. you will loose all the data that is on the comp when you do it. if you need that data pull the drive and put on another comp and copy it off. the reinstall it and then restore it. if you dont have the disk contact dell for a replacement.

Unable to install Maximym Mahjongg game. Computer cannot read the disk.

Good morning! please try to check from the Device Manager if your CD drive is enabled & working properly, if not we have to reinstall the driver, then after reinstalling the driver if still it doesn't read the inserted CD, then try to install a new CD Drive unit -if it works then the previous CD drive unit is defective. best regards

Crashed computer. \WINDOWS\system32\config\SYSTEM is corrupt or missing. We dont have the original setup cd-rom. All we have is a windows xp disk for a different computer. Is there anyway this can work? I...

you have a registry problem! that could be result of a hardware problem.. there is a good article of things you can try, it's usually suggested for you use the same xp cd that you use to install the os, otherwise is risky business using a different cd... you may want to find a cd that has the same service pack you have before starting... if you can't get that cd, read my suggestiong below

http://www.help2go.com/Tutorials/Windows/C:%5Cwindows%5Csystem32%5Cconfig%5Csystem_missing_or_corrupt.html

I strongly suggest the following:
first of all if possible, take your hard drive out, using and enclosure or another machine try to back up your data so it things go wrong or it's just taking too much time, you can just wipe out the hard drive and start fresh with a clean install, you may find it this to be the easiest and fastest way... back up your data regardless then start troubleshooting.

I programm trying to uninstall a program (quicken) to install a newer virsion and the older one will not come out

Quicken is one of the "friendlier" applications. Unless your hard drive is full, you don't need to uninstall the older one to install the new one. I suspect the uninstaller has failed. Without more detail, I can't help there. However, Quicken will install the new one and may even attempt to uninstall the old one itself. Regardless, you should be able to just install the new one and have it locate your existing data. Don't just delete the directory as you'll probably delete your data as well.

New installation on Toshiba lap top. Unable to transfer data from Quicken 99 on IBM lap top. IBM did not recognize flash drive. Copied to email and sent from IBM. 3 messages below with attempts to add...

Try reinstalling Quicken 2008 after uninstalling it first via 'Add/Remove Programs" in Control Panel. this should help.

Also check out THIS article on converting Quicken files to new versions and other info..It may prove to be quite useful..

As for the IBM Laptop not recognizing the flash drive, generally they come with a driver CD. Try installing that on the IBM and see. If you do not have the CD, you should be able to find the driver from the manufacturer's website, or do a google.

Should you have any further questions, please feel to post them here. Please do not assign a rating until you feel your problem is resolved. I will try my best to help you further if need be.
