Smegsd012 electric oven temp seems to be about 40 degrees hotter does it need a new thermostat?

Sounds like you need to set your thermostat as its not reading properly. Ours has a little screw on the side of the thermostat and I use an oven thermometer to make sure the heat is right. Ours was twenty five degrees out.

How to adjust oven controll to the right temp.


You may find that your new oven cooks differently than the one it replaced. Use your new oven for a few weeks to
become more familiar with it. If you still think your new oven is too hot or too cold, you can adjust the thermostat yourself.
Do not use thermometers, such as those found in grocery stores, to check the temperature setting of your oven.
These thermometers may vary 20-40 degrees.
NOTE: This adjustment will not affect the broiling or the self-cleaning temperatures. The adjustment will be retained
in memory after a power failure.
Adjust the oven thermostat-Do it yourself!
To Adjust the Thermostat
Touch the BAKEand BROIL HI/LOpads
at the same time for 2 seconds until
the display shows SF.
Touch the BAKEpad. A two digit
number shows in the display.
The oven temperature can be adjusted
up to (+) 35°F hotter or (-) 35°F
cooler. Touch the + pad to increase the
temperature in 1 degree increments.
Touch the - pad to decrease the
temperature in 1 degree increments.
When you have made the adjustment,
touch the START/ON pad to go back to
the time of day display. Use your oven
as you would normally.
NOTE: This adjustment will not affect the broiling
or self-cleaning temperatures. It will be retained
in memory after a power failure

The oven runs too hot...even at lower temps


If the oven is in temp runaway and just gets hotter and hotter, always on, then there is a failed component. If the temp is just somewhat hotter but is still being controlled then there is a user temp offset procedure to calibrate the oven temp. See your user manual. If a failed component it can be several things from a oven temp probe to the oven controller. There are electrical checks to determine which including reading the resistance of the temp probe at a known oven temp and checking this with a oven probe temp vs resistance chart.

Help! Everything cooked in the oven is burning! I purchased Frigidaire FGEF 3042KF Nov. 2009. The oven temperature heats 25-85 degrees hotter than what Temp. is set. For example 325 degrees is 385 degrees...

This indicates an open/shorted oven temperature sensor and to solve this problem the sensor needs replacement. If you wan to be sure before replacing the sensor then you can test it with a voltmeter for around 1100ohms....if it reads more then this then it needs replacement however, if the reading is around or less then 1100ohms then it is the control board that needs replacement. My oven will not stay at desired temp. It gets much hotter than the desired cooking temp. could this be a thermostat problem?


The thermostat is designed to regulate the desired temperature. If it is getting far too hot then the thermostat requires replacement.

Oven does not maintain a consistent temperature


Is this oven gas or electric? If it is gas then it can be normal to see 30 to 50 degrees difference in tempature. The tempature in a gas oven works on the average tempature. For example: The oven tempature may rise all the way up to 370 degrees. Then the burner will shut off. And then the tempature can drop all the way to 330 degrees. Then take 330 and add that to 370 then divide that number by two and the average tempature will be 350. If your oven is electric then the tempature should be much more consistant but can have a 10 to 15 degree variance. Also the standard oven tempature guage that you put in the oven or even the temp guage built into the oven are not very accurate. We us a Fluke meter with a thermocouple to calibrate an oven. So to check your oven for proper tempature regulation you will first need to let the oven pre-heat for about 15 minutes. Then place the thermocouple in the center of the oven. If the oven is electric the take a temp reading every 5 minutes and average them out. If the oven is gas then you will need to take a temp reading when the tempature reaches it's highest and lowest points. Take at least 5 consectutive readings and average them out. You should get an average within 10 degrees of set temp(350 degrees). If it is off by 35 degrees or less you can usually caluibrate the thermostat back to proper temp. This procedure can be different for each range model. If it is more than 35 degrees off or you are getting irratic readings then the thermostat or thermostat components might need to be replaced.

no you need to still recalibrate the unit if your using the baking style thermo they are famous for being off 75 degrees

My smeg oven,(bottom fan oven) keeps getting hotter and hotter till it cuts out or the fuse blows when i switch it on no matter what temp i put it on,iam assuming its the thermostat,were is it and how yo...


The thermostat is obviously not working and you will need to replace it.

The thermostat is located behind the temperature selector switch on the control panel. The oven thermostat usually has a capilliary tube attached which goes in to the oven internally and is fixed on to the oven wall you will need to disconnect this also and remove it with the thermostat. Fitting the stat is the reverse of removal.

Make sure the electrical supply to the oven is switched off before starting work Hope this will FixYa.
