Question about Magellan Triton 400 Handheld GPS Receiver

Triton 400 GPS locks up on start up

Hello,
My Triton 400 GPS loads up but then locks up after loading. The buttons don't do a thing when pressed. Also the "up" button sticks when pressed. That started all of a sudden. Nothing was spilled on it, maybe dirt inside? Any way of resetting the GPS to keep it from locking up and any way of cleaning the metal up, down, left, right buttons? My GPS is only 4 months old. Thanks.

Mine will zoom out and I can't stop it. Then within a minute of being turned on it locks up. It worked fine for a few months then just started doing this.It has only left my house a few times and only has less than 10 hrs of use.I find out this is a common problem with this unit. There is no fix. Waste of hard earned cash...... JUNK JUNK JUNK......

Somehow you have corrupted the internal software and need a full repair.

When I power up all I get is the Magellan Triton screen. My pc does not recognise the device also

1.Ok, if you have tried the manual update and it won't work then the thing to do is download this file:
http://www.lenwoodcc.org/triton/t500tfat2.zip

To download the file just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and blue highlighted section of text just above.

2.And then connect your GPS your computer and start it in the developers mode - which should make it connect to your computer as a USB driver.

To start your GPS in developer mode ,simultaneously press and hold the POWER - LIGHT - UP ARROW buttons as you start the GPS.
Want to get out of this mode, you can reboot the unit by simultaneously pressing and holding the POWER - SELECT - ESC buttons or just take out one of the batteries.

3.Next unzip the T500TFAT2.ZIP file to a directory on your hard drive. Once you have that unzipped go to "My Computer" and access the TFAT directory on your Triton and erase all of the files on it. Then copy all of the files from the T500TFAT2 file that I sent you. Once you have the new files in place then disconnect your Triton from the computer and reboot it and see if it works.

If you need further assistance please feel free to contact me.

Magellan triton 400 fatal application error gps doesnt work anymore when i open it it give me that error and i cant do any thing with it

What you have to do when your gps device comes up with such a message is for you to reset your device. First check that the battery is properly charged, then you reset it by pressing the reset button that is on it. If that does not do the job. then you have to do the back up restore solution.
To do that, you have to connect your device to the computer that has its software, then you browse out the device using the computer page, then you format your device by right clicking on the device from the computer page, then you select format, do not use the quick start, format it normally, that way the whole software and applications on the device will be wiped out, then you reinstall your software back on it and try to load maps on it. After doing that, your device will work perfectly fine once again.
That should do the job.

How do i load an SD Card into my Magellan Triton 400? Does not appear to be iny slot

Under the front right side black cover .. you will also see an "SD" impression in the cover. Pry up carefully with sharp knife from the bottom of the flap.

Each time I plug in the USB cable I get a blue screen. I am running Windows 7. I am trying to load maps onto the Triton 400.

Don't bother with the 400 on a Win7 machine even though Magellan claims it will work. I also keep getting a bad pool header blue screen on mine even though I've updated everything I could. The best thing to do is to either setup a dual boot system with WinXP and only plug it in while running XP (Don't bother with XP mode in Win7) or have a second system that's dedicated to XP and run Vantage point from it like what I run now from my laptop.

The whole problem is caused by the Triton driver and for some reason Win7 doesn't like it all that much. Vantage Point does run great inside Win7 but as soon as you plug in the Triton, that's when it all starts to screw up.

All we can do is wait until Magellan gives us a proper working driver.

Hi, I need a triton 400 driver. Any ideas where to download?

The Triton GPS drivers load when you install Vantage Point which is free off the magellangps.com website.

Triton 400 can't load topo says sd card no space but has 2gb unused and just formatted

Hopefully your are using an SD or SDHC flash card that meets Sandisk SDA 2.0 specifications.

The problem could also be the NG TOPO software .. please go to jungleghost.com for instructions on how to solve this problem.

Triton 400 connects to PC but does not accept selected NG Topo maps. Message appears that there is no space on SD chip when indeed it is empty and formatted. There is no problem with the contacts either.

OK .. first of all there is a rule "NEVER RUN VP AND NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SOFTWARE AT THE SAME TIME!!"

This problem usually occurs when the NG software has been loaded incorrectly.

Here is the solution:

1) Uninstall the NG software from your computer.
2) Use the Triton CD_ROM and load the sample NG software (This version 4.4.0)
3) Now update the 4.4.0 to 4.4.3

Now you have the correct software. Just reload your maps from the NG CD_ROM data disks and you are OK.
