Question about Singer 7462 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

Singer 404- I just inherited a Singer 404 but it looks different than all the 404's I've seen on e-bay and other sites. It says 404- on the stitch length adjuster but it has a lever to engage the bobbin winder. It also has a 'thread-grabber' that comes out when the uptake is at its highest point. It is tan and cream color but the tan is lighter than my 401A. Where can I find information about his machine? The serial number indicates that it is a 404 and the date is 1960. Any info would be helpful.

Here's a manual for it on this site. www.ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/manuals/singer-404-singer-slant-o-matic-sewing-mac

blog.sew-classic.com/2008/10/25/singer-401-401a-403--403a--404--sewing-machine

These two sites may be of some help.

Singer prestige 6238

Apparently, that machine came with a manual for the 6235--if you have searched, that's why you can't find it, and others are looking for it as well. You can download that manual free from the Singer site (singerco.com). I took a look at it, and it looks like there's a sliding lever on the top that governs stitch length, and a slider under the stitch selector that allows you to select the zigzag width.

What is the difference in the length of the needle on a "handy stitch" as opposed to the "stitch sew quick machine?

Check your manual for the "System" of needle
a normal sewing machine needle has a "System" or dimension
called 15x1 or 705 H. That indicates the length, the circumference
etc. If the needle you received with the machine is the same length as the above system then you should be ok. Also most often the needle package for most machines will be labeled "Universal"

The needle is not centered in the needle plate hole on a Singer 404

Check your user's guide and find out where the needle should be. Next, check the stitch length, and width. If you have a machine capable of creating many stitches, you may have the wrong presser foot attached. If all else fails you can contact the manufacturer through their web site or by a telephone number that is in your user's manual or online.

Looking for a singer contempra 930 manuel to down load

The Singer Contempra 930 is almost a mirror image of the Singer model 1425. Only difference is placement of Stitch length & Reverse Stitch dial and a variation of the Rear Thread Guide. You can download a free pdf manual of the Singer Model 1425 from www.singerco.com.

Singer 301A needle breaks

do you have a book, refer to threading. This machine threads differently than most, threads like a 221 featherweight. Needle goes in backwards, and threads backwards. in wrong and you can have problems, also threading can cause your problem if you have missed tension or a thread guide. great little machine

Singer 301A stitch jam

your machine threads from right to left. the needle flat spot faces left. big loopy things means that the upper part of the machine is not threaded properly. as far as the needle hitting the bobbin case, it sounds as if someone removed the hook (part that holds the case) and put it back on 180 degrees off.

The bottom part of mystitch looks like a bird nest

HI Leaann! I have solution that may help!
I inherited an old Singer 457 (from 1964!) from my Grandmother. I used it a few times with success but then I too started to get birdsnests on the bottom of my work or knots in the area the houses the bobbin.

After much fiddling, using different bobbins and spools of thread, tension and what-not, I discovered that the it was one particular plastic BOBBIN giving me trouble! Although it appeared the same size and width, there is something about this bobbin that will mess up the machine (and within 16 stitches).

I just tossed the thing and have been trouble free ever since!

Try changing out your bobbin, the problem may resolve itself.
