Question about Intel PC Desktops

1 Answer

We just got wireless internet this past year at our house and when my dad set it up he forgot to write down the password which lets you onto the internet. So now we are able to log on through the computer that he set the wireless up with(it does not prompt us for a password), However when guests come over and attempt to connect to the network, they are prompted for the password and cannot get on. How can I either obtain my current password or reset the password to a new one? I have a netgear wireless router and we use PC's with internet explorer. Our wirless connection looks like it is through Intel PROset/Wireless.

To set the wireless settings you need to use a computer that is connected to your router or the computer that is working on your router wirelessly.

access the setup page of your router using IE on the address bar type the ip of your router, by default it is 192.168.1.1, username=admin and password=password, once your on the setuppage go to wireless settings option on the left pane. you will be able to see the wireless security there.

the reason why you dont know the wireless security for the old computers its because once you typed the security key in the computer will remembers it and save it on the system.

you can log into the netgear.

the ip address and the password are usuall underneath it.

connect it to yout laptop or pc and login using the details. once logged in, you will be prompted to insert new services provider details, or if its a DHCP connection and you have your router plugged into the wireless netgear, it will pickup the settings, all you will need to do is define SSID (wireless name) and password.

any probs let me know

Cannot connect to a wireless network when am not at home

Hi make sure once you connect that you enter the 'password' / key to connect to the network. You can right click on it and select 'connect to this network'. Then it should ask you for the network key once it is connected. Once entered you should be able to use 'his' network.

Let me know if this worked ok for you.

Getting a message need Network Security key or passphrase to get onto my Linksys network

That is the key which was set in the router's wireless.
Go to 192.168.1.1 in your browser, Internet Explorer, and a login window should show up.
In the password box type in admin (that is the default password for the router, if it has been changed, you would have to put that password in)

Once you log into the router's setup page, go to the wireless tab, then to security. There you will see the security key. On this page you can change it if you wish. But remember to write it down and keep it in a safe place for future reference.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Forgot the password/code/security to let somebody else onto my linksys home wireless network. Don't remember how to do any of it or retrieve the security code to access the secure wireless network

Hi,

The easiest would be to reset the router using the small recessed button at the back of the unit. Performing a full hard reset (pressing reset more than 10 seconds) would clear the password. Of course, this action would also clear all other configurations and settings reverting the unit back to factory default.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
