Several things. There are 4 fans in this unit. There are 2 squirrel cage type fans that get dirty and plugged stopping needed airflow to the bulb assy. Theres the larger exhaust fan (on the right as viewed from rear) that gets dirty as well as a smaller fan inside that gets dirty which is towards the left side. (as viewed from behind).
If these fans manfunction there is a thermister switch that will cause the warning and/or power light to come on. Mine did the same thing and would have to plug and unplug it several times before it comes on.
I took the back apart replacced the large exhaust fan the thermister switch and blew out the rest of the fans and it worked fine again. Its not difficult, just time consuming with the many screws to remove.
I'm also having the same trouble. It's only a day when I bought this TV and after watching for 2 or 3 hours, I turned the TV off to take a shower, when I get back to open it, it only turns green and I hear a sound for like just 5 secs, then it goes back to red (standby mode). What seems to be the problem? The LCD is 32" and a day old.

power light keeps flashing and the tv won't turn on. If you unplug for a
minute and hit the power button it sound like it is coming on then it
shuts off and the red power light flashes slowly. The TV is a Panisonic
1080i HDTV, about 6-7 years old.
unplug it, and let it set for a minute or 2, then try it again...if it does it again hit the power button again to turn it back on...also once the the tv turns on make sure you reset the counter for the bulb..that will also cause problems...to reset the counter press the (-) volume on the tv while holding down the (-) press spilt, pip on the reomte...the lamp will reset and the indicator will go out
