I have the same problem I was told by Dell using the adaptor and not the battery for long periods causes battery failure. But to check your number on their site as a certain number of their batteries were faulty and they will replace it if your batch number is in the data base

If you want to check if the battery is under the recall program or not use this link https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/Default.aspx

To stop unwanted programs from starting on the computer click on start >> run >> type MSCONFIG and hit OK>> In the system configuration utility go to the startup tab and uncheck the programs you do not want to start. Go to the services tab and put a check on HIDE ALL MICROSOFT SERVICES and uncheck the services you do not need. Hit OK and restart the system. On startup the system configuration utility box will come up. Put a check on do not show again and hit OK.

Battery won't charge above 5%

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

Battery will not charge

li-Ion batteries have a bad habit: whenever fully depleted, they lose a few cells, to the extent that they might not be able to hold a full charge if enough cells are damaged. In other words, repeatedly using a laptop (or any other Li-Ion powered device) to battery depletion can shorten the battery's life significantly. You might want to keep the batteries fully charged whenever possible and avoid fully depleting them too often.
There is also the habit of "re-setting" the batteries by using the "fully deplete-fully charge" procedure. It only applies to niMH or NiCD batteries ( and is used to erase the "memory effect" ) but is damaging to Li-Ion batteries for the reason mentioned above.
so if your battery can not full charge, this mean you need change a new battery for your laptop

I have new laptop how many hour battery charge first time

First Time Charging
  • The amount of time it takes for your battery to fully charge depends on many factors, like your battery type and operating system. Many newer laptops will charge in 15 to 20 minutes, while others can take a few hours.

When you're charging your battery for the first time, charge it fully before using your laptop. You may have to go through a battery cycle a couple times before your battery begins performing at its maximum capability. To do this, charge your battery fully, let it discharge to about five percent, and then fully charge it again
