RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF TYPING A FORM, THE HAMMER STOPPED HITTING THE KEYS. IS THERE A RE-SET PROCEDURE, OR AM I LOOKING AT A SIMPLE MECHANICAL REPAIR TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE PART?
Typewriter types as if it is recording the text in memory but doesn't print on the paper. Ribbon is good.

The best way to find what you are looking for is to look at your printwheel. Right in the middle of the carriage there is a part that hits the printwheel. That is called the hammer. If you look down on the left side you will see a blue piece of rubber that attaches to the hammer. If you continue to look further down the hammer you will see the solenoid that activates and hits a screw that sticks out from the hammer. The end of the solenoid is where the "cap" can be attached. You do not have to remove the solenoid to install the repair "cap" if that is what you are really looking for. A technician can put in a new cap in less that 30 seconds.

The carriage is touching the cavers it need the flat rubber washers that are between the case and the frame look at the bottom of the typewriter remove the screw slip in a new washer and replace the screw do the same on the other side
There is a solenoid that hits the hammer when a key is pressed. There is a plastic spacer on the solenoid plunger that falls apart and keeps the plunger from hitting the hammer. Therefore it looks and sounds like it is working but no letters appear on the paper. Try to find a typewriter repairman to fix it. It is a common problem on wheelwriters so any repairman should know what part is needed.
If you are sure the hammer is hitting the printwheel and platen (try printing on a multi part form if the carbons print the ribbon is probably not lifting, wiggle the big black gear on the right side of the printer. If it doden't print the print solenoid cap is probably broken.
We sell the cap with instructions and shipping for 20.00.
Put in a multi part form, if the carbons print well then try a fresh ribbon,. not one that has been sitting around for a long time. If it is bad check for debris around the print hammer, If its clean either the print solenoid is gummy or the solenoid cap is broken.
I am supprised your repairman couldnt fix this, either the hammer is binding or the V 1 resistor on the logic board needs adjusted I do this repair in my shop quite often.
