  • RICHDOHM Sep 18, 2008

DID NOT CORRECT MY PROBLEM. THERE IS NO ICE BUILDUP, EXCEPT ON THE FLOOR OF FREEZER AS MENTIONED BEFORE, AND THERE IS NO SORT OF AUTO DEFROST SWITCH IN THE REFRIG

  • RICHDOHM Sep 19, 2008

I ALREADY TRIED THAT. I TURNED IT OFF ON THE DOOR, RAISED UP THE METAL LEVEL CHECKER AND EMPTIED OUT THE ICE TRAY. ABOUT 15 HRS LATER, THERE WAS ICE ON THE FLOOR OF THE FREEZER. CONSIDERING REMOVING ALL THE SHELVES AND THE REAR PANEL TO CHECK THE DRAIN. THANKS ANYWAYS, RICH

I also have this problem on this rsw 2400 new in 1997. The problem for me is the ice tray behind the panel. Defrost water goes into metal tray. Metal tray drains down to plastic tray below refer. I spoke to may tag customer service. it is a design problem, resolved by replacing the duck bill valve pn W1 03 09 238. I didn't get a price, i will let my maytag repair guy put it in and hope that solves it. The new valve is longer and wider. Mike Tucson

Self-defrosting refrigerators dispose of the water generated during the defrost cycle, usually via a tube or channel that directs the water to a pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. From the pan, the water normally evaporates. If the tube or channel is clogged or obstructed, the water backs up and leaks into the inside of the refrigerator compartment. Then the water builds up at the bottom, inside of the refrigerator. When the water has built up for a time it may spill out of the front of the door opening. To fix this problem, clear the drain tube or channel and allow the defrost water to flow down to the drain pan.

Cut the water off to the icemaker if this stops the water build up on floor then you will know it is a leak from icemaker or filter. which i feel sure it is there is no other reason for this much ice to builup that quickly

have you cut the water off where it comes into fridge? like under the sink where it hooks up? if you do this then you will know it is a line or not?

THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE AUTO DEFROST (IF THE FEATURE IS AVAILABLE) OR ELSE YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY DEFROST IT REGULARLY

THE AUTODEFROST SWITCH (IF AVAILABLE) MUST BE THERE AROUND THE TEMPERATURE CONTROL KNOB OF THE REFRIGERATOR

clear the drain channel and so that the defrost water can flow down to the drain pan.

Water is leaking onto the floor. There is ice buildup on the bottom of the freezer section.

You have an auto defrost drain problem.Look carefully in the freezer in the very back and bottom and that is where the ice is plugging up the line. You may also be able to get at the problem from the rear of the refrig.Hope this helps.

My refrigerator expelled water tonight. Whe I woke, this morning, I found the floor with water. Can you tell me what could be happening?

if the drain is blocked in the freezer water can leak out onto the floor if it's leaking out of the frezer door.open the door and check the bottom rack,if it's frozen in or ice is on the floor of the freezer then it's the drain.also if you have a water line going to the machine one of the water lines could have cracked.let me know what you find and we can go from there

Water is slowly dripping onto the floor from the bottom of the freezer door. it is as if the door is full of water. any suggestions?

ARe the temperatures good inside the freezer? If they are not near 0° F, that is the cause of the water drip.

If it is nice and cold in freezer, check freezer floor, is there a sheet of ice? you have a clogged defrost drain, clear it or have it cleared for you.

Sounds like you have a frozen drain line. I would unplug the unit at let the drain line thaw. This would be the easiest way to rectify the issue. Leave both doors open for 24 hrs. Hope this helps _MJ_

My Maytag side-by-side refrigerator/freezer Leak

There is a pan and drain hose under the freezer coil that is there to catch any water when the freezer goes into defrost. I feel strongly that is where you will find your leak.
I hope this helps.

Maytag refrigerator

It may not be a water problem, it may be an air leak.
If there is something that is keeping the door from total closing, ice will build up from moisture.
check the gasket around the freezer door, or see if there is something that is keeping it from closeing completely.
