IBM Thinkcentre 8172 (8172/RB) PC Desktop Logo

IBM 8172-MM4 desktop pc. I am getting low voltage measured on the USB ports(all) when I have a few things plugged in... (320G HD{rear ports}, 3G modem {Front ports}, SD card reader {Front ports}) Pins 1 & 4 measures about 4.6 ~ 4.8V Sometimes USB devices stop working & generally the 3G modem has low signal strength. Connecting my USB Video capture device crashes all devices on the USB ports. All these USB devices have been connected to another PC (laptop) & are operating ok all together. - 3G modem full bars Otherwise there is no other noticed operating problems with this machine. Is there an auxillary supply on the motherboard for USB 5V (that may be suspect.)

Couldn't find audio driver for IBM thinkcentre MT-M 8327-77G for windows 7

That because this system came XP. You will need to run drivers on compatibility mode if possible.

MT 8172 SOUND DRIVERS

The same model ThinkCentre can have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless you know exactly which one is installed in your ThinkCentre, you need to download all the drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver. When you download the drivers, write down the device driver and it's file name so you have a record of which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files are located on your hard drive. Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows audio and device drivers for your model computer, Use this link: - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true

The main pc power supply is failing, this is an easy fix with any generic pc power supply.
most competent persons can do this themselves with a little caution and a photograph before you remove the old one...!
good luck !

Sound Drivers, VGA Driver

You can find all drivers for the 8172 at Lenovo's website,
"http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?" Lenovo doesn't allow you to link directly to the page so you will have to start at the page above then go through the product locator by choosing Desktop at step 1, ThinkCentre S series for step 2, S51 for step 3, 8172 for Step 4 and then all models for step 5 and then choose whatever OS you have. This will take you to the page to download all of the drivers for that model.

I have a Maxtor 1Tb External Hard Drive that I have only used a couple of times on my PC - I did a full back up a few months ago and all was well. I added a couple of things to it a couple of months ago...

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

Where can i download usb drivers for my ibm thinkcenter.

What version of Windows are you using? What happens when you plug in a USB device? Any error messages? Check your BIOS and see if the ports are enabled. If theyre not, then enable them. If youre running Windows 98 Second Edition or newer, the USB port drivers are typically built in. If all else fails, you can purchase and install a USB card. If its an older machine, get the 2 port card, otherwise, the 4 or more port card will suffice. (Some 4 or more port cards dont play nice in older machines.)
