Question about D-Link DIR-625 (790069292637) Wireless Router

1 Answer

Cannot connect to a network that is using D'Link's DIR-615 as its wireless router

My friend has an old laptop using Windows XP professional. Mine and my buddies are using Vista operated laptops. We see the network on the list, but we cannot connect to it. Only one of us has been able too, and his too uses Windows Vista. The network isn't hooked up to the internet. We just have it up so we can get some old school Diablo 2 going. I've been trying to look up a solution on the internet but no one has the same problem as I do. I've told my friend to update the software if possible. Us Vista users has updated our Wireless hardware drivers, but nothing works. When we diagnoses the problem it comes up as unknown reasons.

I am thinking that will work. But my buddies router won't let me change the settings. it's not letting me log into the router as admin, only as user. The admin password should be blank, but nothing happens. the user password is blank and i'm able to get in that way, but i can't change anything.

well we were able to get on the admin, after we reset the router. we then changed the pnp to unchecked. That took away the network named games off everyones list. But Dlink was still up, that was the one we were never able to get on except one guy. Now we can connect to it. I was able to get on the Diablo 2 with someone hosting. But some of the guys can't get on Diablo2. They were able to get on the network, but not can't connect to server, I disabled their firewalls and anti-virus programs but 'no dice'.

I also noticed that some of the ip addresses for my buddies laptops are either 198 or 172

  • MoDan85 Sep 16, 2008

I was hoping it wasn't coming to that. Because that is the confusing part for me, like I don't know the numbers to the ports or where to look for them. But I do know the part about letting programs or games through router, that I do know, in the port forwarding part. Well I will look into that once i get off work, and keep you posted.

Unless the admin and password have been changed the default I belive is name "Admin" and password is "password"

Did you use port forwarding? you have to add the application (game or whatever) in to the port forwarding and add the udp and pdc ports you use for Diablio. If you have more than one set of ports add the next set under Diablio1,2,3 and so on, and also you have to allow the ports in your windows firewall as well in the same fashion

I am connected to a DIR 615, it says I have wireless connection but it won't connect wireless, if I connect a cable it is fine??

Hi mike63771,

All you need to do is to set it up properly. Make sure that the router is connected to the computer using an ethernet cable so that the computer will be able to communicate with the router. Then open a browser type 192.168.0.1 on the address bar. The default username is admin and the password is blank. Go to the Wireless Settings Page then check the SSID or Network Name and the Network Key or Passphrase. Now try to connect to your computer. Click on Start then click on Connect To. Select your Network Name then if it ask you to enter a password enter the Network Key. You can personalize the network key on the router settings page.

if youve changed the password on the router since the other computers logged onto the network, then you need to delete the network history from those computers.
Otherwise those laptops will be trying to connect to the network with the old details.

Connected to wireless router, not connected to the internet

Try setting up a new network connection in the Network and Sharing Center. You'll need your info from your router like:
router username:
router password:
network name (ssid):
network security type:
network security key:
connection type:
Some will also ask for a serial id(I've only ever come across one)

I've never used your particular brand of router but it ought to work the same way as far as the setup.
