Question about Frigidaire Heating & Cooling
I have bought a frigidaire thru the wall ac unit. after installation the compressor will kick on but only stays on for a couple to few seconds and shuts off.....maybe 8-10 seconds.
thinking that i got a bum unit, i got a second one and it does the same thing.
It states to have a 15 amp circuit, which put in a 20 amp with 12-2.
does the unit need to stay on for a long time before the compressor gets activated?
this is a 18,500 btu model fam187s2a.
A 9 1/4 ton unit should have a 230 volt service check that power is correct and not 110 v

This unit is a 220 volt ac unit. 12-2 wiring is usually for 120 violt circuits?

SOURCE: need a replacement thru the
Measure the cabinet dimensions. then best place to check for replacement is Home Depot ,Lowe's, sometimes Sams Club, B.J.'s or Cosco these places buy in large volume and are hard to beat when it comes to price. The 115 volt units go up to 12,000 BTU. which is one ton. If you hit at the right time of year I,ve seen a/c units around 6,000 btu sold for as low as $69.00.
Shop around most all brands are about the same. Cost is based on the number of bells and whistles you want. The most simple units cost the least also the less that can go wrong. I have found it really hard to find exact demention replacements.

SOURCE: 2 Air Conditioner Problems
Whinny noise is probably motor which needs some motor machine oil (hardware store).
Freezing is probably caused by bad de-icing switch or poorly insulated de-icing switch.
If you want to further pursue, let me know.

Check the motor for power. The condenser only has the compressor and the fan as its moving parts. Check if there is power running to it or you may just have the fan that is not working. In checking see if there is a correct freon pressure, power cables or relay for the compressor are all ok or there are leaks in the system. You may want to have it cleaned while at it.

SOURCE: i have a 5,000 btu
Could be the starter contactor, the capacitor or the compressor by itself . You can see the condition of the starter and maybe clean or if it looks bad , must be replaced. The same goes for the capacitor if the compressor is humming. But if the compressor motor is not starting up , please check for starting current with a clamp tester, if it goes higher and stalls then the compressor/motor is faulty.
Might need help to do an overhauling.
I hope this advice helps.
