A/c switch I am trying to find out how to replace the high pressure switch in my, RUUD central A/C unit. The system is empty, as the high pressure switch was leaking.I am having trouble where the copper line, on the switch, goes into the high side line. I can see it is not soldered.Do you need some kind of special tool and if so how and where I can buy one. Thank's for your HELP!!!!

If it is an AUTO RESET pressure switch you can use wrench to remove it.

R-22 home condenser unit low side and high side pressures when running

Pressures look good but to know if it is charged correctly you have to do a sub cool or superheat to know for sure. Rule of thumb is if turn unit it on let it run 10 minutes. If the suction line sweats and is cold. Might be proper charge.

I have a 5 TON Ruud split unit air conditioner. The Compressor was replaced last year. Now the unit works well for about 15 minutes and then stops cooling. Thermostat says,"In Recovery". What can I do to...

May be due to improper refrigerant pressure; I would have it checked.
'Recovery' is normally provided to allow high- and low-side pressures to return to a safe range before the unit is allowed to cycle again and yours is doing it way too soon.

What if your unit is not turning on....but the inside unit is still heating..

Most heat pump systems utilize electric strip heaters as back-up and emergency heat. This will allow the system to continue to produce heat in the event of heat pump failure. If you are having problems getting your heat pump to turn on, you might have a blown line voltage fuse, a tripped circuit breaker, or a high pressure switch tripped. The high pressure switch on a Rheem or Ruud unit is a red button located near the service valves at the outdoor unit. Try pushing the button to reset. Check your indoor air filter and replace as necessary.
I hope you find this helpful. If you continue to experience problems, please let us know and we will dig deeper to help you. :-)

My heat unit will not blow hot air unless we go outside and hit a button on the back bottom of the unit. Once we do that it will blow hot air for that cycle. when it is time for it to come on it is cold...

If it does not have a furnace or heating elements for heating, then it is a heat pump, which is rare for a central AC system, but makes sense of the fact that it blows warm air when you reset the pressure switch, which may indicates freon pressure charge problem if your AC system has a reverse valve and uses freon to for heating (heat Pump).

Do you get heating when outside unit runs? if you do, check freon pressure levels and top up to required pressures. The button you depress is a pressure reset switch ... that is if your AC system is a heat pump ... which, as pointed above, it is not common for central ACs.

How do I replace the high-pressure cutout switch on my Ruud heat

Since you have switch by passed make sure the condenser is clean. you run the possibility of trashing the compressor. "burning it out" the high pressure switch is a very good safety I recommend a certified contractor to replace the switch and give the unit a tune up for best performance cleaning both coil then checking the charge. High pressure cut out control module is locking out the restart of condensor, if you hit reset button, condensor will start up, changed air filter.system is a ruud 12 seer heat pump with scroll inside

You need to pull the condenser shroud and hose down the outside unit really, really well and I can't stress that enough. The pressure switch helps protect the outdoor unit. There are only two things that will cause this to trip.....dirty condenser coils and a blockage in the high side of the unit. On a Ruud, to clean it good, you have to remove the shroud.

Ruud 12 seer heat pump not heating

It sounds like the unit is tripping off from high pressure. Check you filter and indoor coil. You may have low air flow inside that is causing the refrigerant pressure to be to high.

RUUD HEAT PUMP COMPRESSOR FAILURES UPKA-061-JAZ

Newer High efficiency A/C's are not compatible with the older systems for many reasons. They use a different refrigerant, have a different oil in the system for lubrication and they operate at higher pressures than the older systems using refrigerant 22 which is being phased out. It is standard procedure to replace the entire system when upgrading.
