Toshiba Satellite A105 PC Notebook

Toshiba satellite 1905 charging problem (by 6 users)

The laptop is a few years old with alot of miles on it. When i plug
the charger into the laptop the battery light will glow amber and
charge properly for a few minutes then the battery light will begin to
blink and the battery will discharge until the laptop shuts off. If i
pull the plug and plug it back in the laptop will begin to charge
properly again for a few minutes and then the light will begin
blinking again. I bought a new battery hoping this would solve the
problem, but the problem remains.

Please Help B4 my laptop goes flying out my window!

Satellite M35X. Replaced with new battery and power cord - almost $100 on laptops for less. My complaint is not with them. I think it's a Toshiba laptop problem. Front lights flicker on and off when turned off. Have to jiggle cord to keep them glowing. When using laptop, goes back and forth between AC and DC power. Battery continues to discharge - a percent every minute or so - though plugged in. Will eventually reach 100% charge. Often takes overnight. Used to be, maybe, an hour. Have 2 other friends with Toshibas, same problem. And no - do NOT feel comfy in opening/soldering power jack. Scrap it and buy another laptop???

Have the computer by an ASP for possible failure in the port where you plugin the battery.

Power jack

I agree with nightshifter. There could be a problem with the laptop power jack.
If you know how to take apart your laptop and have some soldering skills, you can resolder or replace the power jack yourself.
Here are step-by-step instructions for replacing failed laptop power jack.

you are all wrong !!!! i have a Toshiba and the power wont charge will for a while then stops. rolf.. not a jack problem.. !!!!!!! i think its to do with the firmware that charges the battery , try updating the bios.. not tried this :S

ps. if you want to save your jack, unplug and plug the power cord in the transformer to get it to charge again..

done some research and found out you may need a firmware update for tpwrmain.exe if this sounds a little complicated try creating a new power profile... what i just did and seems to be working although the charging animation is not working although the percentage is changing the level on the power image in system tray. this means A- but is charging..

P's. the battery will charge absolutely when the computer is off.

I have that problem and did some research to find that the port where you plug the power in is very poorly constructed and will not hold the jack in properly. It's not the battery -it's the power supply cord. I even bought a new replacement cord and still have the problem. I have read tons of complaints about this. I don't think there's really anything you can do about it - except buy a new laptop!

ahem....power issues for laptops come from one of three areas. Internal(firmware), external(power supply),act of god(just kidding on three).

So, with that, here's the basic basics.

1. Go get cd with drivers/utilities and reinstall.
2. Go online and get updated driver set, select power manangement option.
3. Batteries, MUST be exercised at least once a month, in full up/down discharge sequence, otherwise, you wind up with the equivalent of a float charge, which won't do much good.
4. When the 'new' battery was installed, did it have a full charge? If not, then the 'blinker' might just be accurate(seems manual will tell you what blinking conditions means).
5. Final suggestion. Go to power profile, and compare the charge condition of both batteries. Should be quite different, due to age(rechargeables have a typical life of 3 years, assuming that the heat doesn't get em first).

[Power BLINKING amber w/ battery BLINKING?]
-= Answer / Hypothesis =-

To start with I'll say some system info -
Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
Model: Satellite A215
Processor: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56 1.80GHz
Memory (RAM): 1918 MB
System type: 32-bit Operating System

The title states the initial concern, then I noticed that my laptop stopped charging. I understand many of you think its the port, in my case I believe it is different (though may be the same thing). After the blinking I went to make sure it was plugged in (check), I made sure the plug was fully inserted into my AC/DC Adapter (check), ... My AC/DC was on fire (not literally). Its been extremely hot for the last 5-10 minutes. I RARELY shutdown my laptop and its almost always on hibernate. While my AC/DC adapter cools down I'm just going to run on a low power setting, I bet if I had another adapter I could keep charing but no biggy. Hope this helps... Just to make sure it wasnt the socket making my community lets say "overheat" ill be using a different one for awhile. Hey hope this helps... Im glad I can post without having to join, what a beezy.

Sounds like the first battery was bad and perhaps the replacement is
too. Where did you get the new battery?
