Question about Alesis Fusion 8HD Sound Card

2 Answers

No sound When i turn on my fusion HD8 the volume knob doesn't work -just rotate- and the sound from the keyboard is very weak and you can hardly hear it coming out along with a little buzzz from my monitors. I check the headphones ,aux jacks and main outputs but still the sound is so low with something like static elecrticity sound coming out from the monitors. Monitors are ok , i checked them with another instument. I also did the rebbot and reinstall the OS bin file but still the same. Probably is a internal out problem, what you thing? Please help!

I had that on my HD8. I had the extremely faint sound problem, too. Volume did nothing.

In my case it was the I/O card (part number AL9-79-0313-A), which feeds the headphones and other outputs. At one time the card was about 115 dollars, I think. You can call Alesis parts and try to get one. Be aware, though, that it is possible something else popped this board, as some Fusions had a power regulation issue in the past (I wish I could advise you specifically on that, but I can't find out the details myself.) So far, mine is working wonderfully.

(Actually, on my I/O card it was one blown transistor and a fried quad op amp. The transistor applies or removes voltage to the output op amps as told by the MUTE signal, which I suppose is to keep your speakers and ears from popping when you turn the Fusion on. That made it like MUTE was on all the time, with the smallest amount of leakage if you listen really close in headphones.

I got it going because I have done electronic repair work for years AND because Alesis was kind enough to send me a PDF of their service manual. And God helped me, or at least kept me from ruining it further by giving me some patience. No parts looked bad that actually were bad on the IO card. I felt fortunate to get it working this way, as the surface mount parts are tiny, and it's been awhile since I did much electronics.

If you do take this dude apart, be very careful not to pinch the large gray ribbon cable (looks like a hard drive cable) in the back of the keyboard putting it together again. Don't ask how I know that...

Disconnected the battery post to clean it put it back on now my radio won't turn on I have a 2007 ford fusion

On my 2010 Fusion Hybrid, the radio started acting wonky. Volume would not go up, even though the display showed the bars going up.
This was the canary in the mine shaft, as issues like that indicating a weak batter (starting battery).
The battery died all together 2 days later, replaced, and all issues went away.

So for your issues it sounds like you need to take of, put back on wiggle back and forth and tighten. The connection is weak.
Or could be the battery is going bad....

Doesn't sound like a fuse. They don't fix themselves when you reach 75%.

Try shaking the volume knob while in the 30-50% range and/or try (with the power off) rotating the volume knob numerous times from 0% to 100%. If when you plug it back in it responds ANY differently, you might have a bad volume potentiometer. If when you shake the knob you hear static or intermittent sound, you have a bad volume pot.

The only other thing I can think of is that the wiper of the volume pot is not in contact with the windings inside the pot until you reach the 75% mark. When the volume comes on at 75%, does it start off kind of "static" then come in loud and clear? Also try this.... adjust the volume pot to 74% (or when the sound just begins to come on). At this point shake the knob. If you hear static, replace the volume pot.

Unplugging it when still on shouldn't cause any damage... in fact it probably hasn't considering it works at 75% plus.

No or low sound/Volume knob may have loose connection

That sounds like a bad solder joint where the knob is attached to the board on the inside. Depending on how long you have had your Scanner, you may be able to return it to Radio Shack for another one or they may want to send it in for repair.

If you have had Experience in working on Electronic devices you could probably open it up and re-solder the joint yourself, but ONLY if the Scanner is OUT of warranty would you want to take that route.

This is an easy fix with a can of volume knob cleaner i think its called. You should be able to get it at radio shack. You just spray it into the volume knob and let it dry. The instructions are on the can.

Low sound on desktop pc

Hi,

I have extensive experience with the CP414 (I used to work for the company that supplied it to MPC). It sounds to me like you have a broken volume knob. On the bottom edge of the LCD panel, just to the right of the MPC logo, there should be a volume control knob. This knob should only be able to turn through about 270 degrees of rotation. If it rotates freely, it is broken. These tend to break if they are hit from below. (This can happen during assembly at the MPC factory -- if a technician props the LCD panel up on its bottom edge, it will damage the volume knob.)

There are a few solutions:

#1: This is probably the easiest one to accomplish. Remove the cable door on the back of the system (it is the one at the bottom on the back -- held in by one screw). Under this door there are anywhere from 5-6 cables plugged into the motherboard. One of these is a connector with 30 pins arranged in two rows of 15. The cable plugged into this connector probably has pink wires. Short pins 7-8 on this connector (they should be across from each other, but only pins 1, 2, 29, and 30 are labeled). To short the pins, insert a thin wire into the back side of the connector so that it makes contact with the exposed pins. You could also use a resistor to do the trick - 10KOhms will give you no volume while 0Ohms will give you full volume. Something like 2.5K could give you a nice middle ground.

#2: Replace the volume knob. The part number for the knob is XV0107GPV2NB10K-3824. Good luck finding someone who will sell you one of these.

#3: Disassemble the LCD panel (it's not that hard if you have a #1 phillips screw driver) and short the volume control knob pins 2-3. This will disable the volume control completely, but it will be stuck on maximum volume. This would be best done by soldering a wire between those two pins.

Options 1 and 3 will disable the hardware volume control, but the software volume control in Windows will still work fine.
