I HAVE A TOMTOM ONE WHICH IS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD,MY WIFE WAS GOING TO LONDON ALL WAS WELL WITH TOMTOM UNTIL 3 MILES FROM DESTINATION WHEN IT STOPPED WORKING. WE HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET IT WORKING SINCE. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED IN APRIL 2007 THE TOMTOM WAS SENT AWAY, IT CAME BACK WITH LETTER STATING NO PROBLEM FOUND. I HAVE TRIED RESETTING WITH A PAPER CLIP BUT STILL NOTHING CAN ANYONE HELP ?
Hello dungtaff,
Fom what you describe it sound like you might have a faulty cigarette lighter lead. This may have caused higher voltage that normal to be input to the TomTom. If possible have the lead checked for its voltage output as it should be around 5v . Unfortunatly , if the lead has put too much voltas into your TomTom then it will have damaged it inside usually causing 1 or more IC's to blow. The repair will not be possible at home DIY style as it requires special soldering techniques and tools as the parts are extremely small. A seach on the internet or maybe ebay will give you some repair people.
The first problem you had might not be the same problem as this time . For resetting the TomTom you only need to do a single momentary push of the button ( not too hard as the reset button is delicate ) . This does a quick disconnect of the battery causing reset of proccessors. You might also try another type of reset where you hold the ON button whilst again doing a momentary push of the rest button. Ideally you should then have the TomTom on charge when you first attempt to switch it on after the reset. Please get your car lead checked before doing any of this.
GOOD LUCK.
