Plug In or Not

Hi,
I just bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop. The manual says I should not
over charge the battery. So I have to unplug it when it's fully charged even
if I don't have to, and plug it back in when the battery is low. I figure
the battery would have to be recharged / discharged couple of times this way
each day. That can't be good, can it? I don't understand why it can not be
made to stop charging when the battery is fully charged. I have many devices
that will automatically stop charging when battery is fully charged. Is
there any other brand that does not require you unplug when the battery is
fully charged?

Thanks for any help!

ZR.

Just to clarify, I think you'll wear out the battery a whole lot faster
by fully cycling it once or twice per day than you would by leaving it
plugged in with the battery fully charged most of the time.

Are you sure the manual says not to leave it plugged in? Perhaps it's a
generic safety warning about not overcharging the battery if, for
instance, you used some charger that wasn't designed for the battery.

No, what you are proposing would be catastrophic to the battery, which
may well cost $200 to $250.

First, the battery can only sustain a limited number of charge-discharge
cycles. While the number varies, it's in the range of low to mid
hundreds (say
