Thank You I contacted Garmin and stated that the suction cup mount had failed and the unit fell hitting my cup holder (all tru) and they gave me a RMA# and requested that I send it back to be fixed free of charge. I asked and the rep admitted that they may giove me a refurbished unit. That is ok by me!!! Thank You

Contact Garmin www.garmin.com. Make sure its registered with them and explain what happened. They have a flat rate charge to fix anything for one price but you need to see if they will cover it under the warranty. Physical damage is hard to prove as a factory defect, unless it was that way out of the box.

Best Buy loves to sell warranties that they won't honor. They're credit card system is a joke and their phone reps are outsourced outside of the US.

I'm glad they took care of you. You might want to look into getting a friction mount for your GPS. It's like a bean bag filled with lead pellets and has rubber grips on the bottom. It just sits on your dash and won't move around. Easy to remove and take with you.

    Best wishes,

My Garmin 1490 LMT goes to white screen with "press dot" only its not to calibrate it bc no matter how many times you push it it wont go, it wont get out of that screen so I can't do...

The white screen indicates are internal error. It keeps telling the unit to go into calibration mode. The item will need to be sent to garmin for repair. 1-800-800-1020. If your unit was purchased recently (less than a year) it is covered under Garmins limited Warranty.

My Garmin Nuvi 205 touch screen will not work. I've calibrated multiple times but the screen is still not interactive

Hello,

It sounds like your screen has died on the unit and will need to be sent in for warranty, if it past the unit 1 year manufacturers warranty it is usually cheaper to get a new more up to date unit.

Hope this helps!

I've had my garmin for 2 months,I brought it to best - buy to see if they could fix it the screen had black & white blotches . You could hear directions but no road map, the fellow who helped me said...

Well for starters, your device is still under the manufacturer warranty, so I would consider tapping that resource.

Based on what I know of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) The telltale sign of a cracked screen is the blotchy display. Usually cost more to replace the display than to get a new unit.

A craked screen is not normally covered under a manufacturer warranty unless it was damaged under normal use. (hard to prove)

You may have been charged for the cost of an extended warranty by best buy (they usually ask) If so, that would cover theft and user induced damage. Take your receipt back to best buy and see what your options are.

good luck and don't forget to vote!!!

Frozen white screen

Most GPS problems - Hangs, frozen screens, problems acquiring satellites, ETC, can be attributed to the device not having the latest firmware installed.
This firmware enables it to communicate with the satellites - but if they aren't speaking the same language they get confused easily. For Garmin GPS Automotive units, Garmin has you do the following before sending it in for repairs:
1 - SOFT RESET
2 - HARD RESET (CLICK HERE to see instructions for either reset)
3 - UPDATE the device using their WebUpdater software (CLICK HERE for that) Garmin is the only company that offers repairs AFTER the warranty has expired. They offer a FLAT RATE REPAIR service for units no longer in warranty. For other GPS units please consult your owner's manual or their support site - as each model - and even manufacture dates - can lead to different reset procedures. TomTom
NAVIGON

MAGELLAN NEXTAR - does NOT offer any types of Firmware or map upgrades or repair services. Instead - they have an exchange program to update to a new UNIT for around the same price as a repair would be. CLICK HERE for more on that. WARRANTY on most GPS devices is 1 year from the date of purchase.

Broken screens are considered ABUSE - and not covered under warranty.

Finally - If your unit is on the charger for HOURS, You've tried both the car AND USB type charger, and you turn it on... it stays on for a minute (or so) then powers down or never comes on at all - the battery has lost it's ability to hold a charge and must be replaced. Looking around YouTube - you can get a tutorial on how to CAREFULLY crack open just about any GPS. The tool(s) necessary typically are included with the battery purchase. Typically batteries run about $25 +/-. NiCd batteries are meant to be energized once a month so they keep active, and don't build up deposits that lead to their premature failure.

I hope this was helpful for you.

My tomtom fell off the holder and hit my shifter knob then landed on the floor i picked it up and the screen was cracked wont let me do nothin .... Can i send it in to get fixed got it last year Christmas...

The manufactures warranty will not cover this damage. They only cover manufacturer's defects. They will however replace the screen for you, but not without charging you a hefty price. It'll be cheaper to buy another one.

My husband dropped his Garmin Nuvi 260W that he got for Christmas and cracked the screen. Is there any way to get this repaired? I live in Pittsburgh.

did your huband know if they brought it at best buy or where they go it.
chances are it might still be under warranty
If that is the case take it there or call them and see what you can do.
otherwise see if you can locate a garmin shop around your area by going on the garmin
web page garmin.com

Even if you have an extended warranty, it does not cover physical damage. It will cost you more to fix it, then to buy a new one =(

Broken screen

The best solution, in my opinion, is to buy a unit being sold for parts or repair (making sure that the LCD display was working) and do the replacement that way.

That's what I'm doing because when I write with my stylus it doesn't recognize what I write.
