I can't shutdown my computer (XPS 15z), everytime i click shut down, it goes into the shutting down screen and after the computer turns off, it automatically starts up again. Meaning the "Shut Down" button at home menu acts like a "Restart". Please help :)

My computer still functioning even its shutdown already

have you tried to hold the power button down for 5 seconds? if that doesn't work, it's possible that when you click the shut down the last option used was the hibernate option. when you click the orb click the arrow pointing to the right next to the power indicator and make sure it's set to shut down and not hibernate

How to shut down a computer?

1. Close any applications you have running, such as your email or instant messaging service, by clicking the "X" in the upper-right corner of each program page.

2. Left-click your mouse on the Start button, typically found in the bottom-left corner of your computer screen.

3. Highlight the option to "Shut Down" and left-click your mouse again to initiate the proper shutdown process.

4. Wait until your computer logs you off of any applications, your computer screen goes blank and the power light turns off before you turn off your monitor or close your laptop.

My XPS 1530 will not shutdown, it only restarts

Try running chkdsk /r and then restart the computer. to do that, click on START, RUN, in the open field, type 'cmd' and press <enter>. A dos window will open. At the blinking cursor, type 'chkdsk /r' and press <enter>. You will get a message that the drive can't be locked and do you want to run it the next time Windows starts. Type 'y' and press <enter>. Now shutdown the computerand restart it. Chkdsk will run and it may take some time. Depending on your installation, you will see a blue screen that will show the progress. Sometimes the screen will stay black and the hard drive light will flash. That's ok. Let it run until Windows loads. Wait until it is completely loaded and then try shutting it down normally.

Good luck and let me know how it works out.

Dell XPS M1530 trouble shutting down

Try this, just to see if the shutdown actually works.

Open a command prompt and enter the following:

shutdown -s -t 05

-s is to shutdown, -t 05 is a 5 second countdown.  Let me know if it actually shuts down.
