If this is a Dewalt tool as the picture indicates I would go to and type in your model number for a manual, I also believe there is an area that you can click on for this information

How do you insert a drill bit?

Grasp the ring at the nose of the drill. It has knurling around it. Pull it forwards and insert an impact rated driver bit or hex shank drillbit. Let the bit slide into the recess until it bottoms out. Release the knurled ring. You should hear the little keeper bearings spring back into place. Your toolbit should now be captive so you can go to work.

The chuck on the dewalt impact driver does not hold the bit holder in

If you go to you can enter your model number to see the parts breakdown. It can be tricky to get the retainer clip off and on but the rebuild of the bit holder is easy other than that. The spring and the steel ball are all that usually need to be repalced. Hope that helps.

How do i insert bit in cordless dewalt keyless hex chuck?

It only accepts 1/4" hex shank bits and nut drivers. Mine just pops in and to release it, you push the black collar around the bit down. Cannot put round end bits in it. Only hex shanks

How do i put a drill bit?

An impact driver won't work very well as a drill. In fact it will probably break drill bits in anything but very soft material (like drywall). A drill bit needs a smooth continuous motion, because it cuts continuously as it turns. An impact driver turns with a staccato motion.

My dw056 breaks bits can you change the hammer to a 1/4" or 3/8" hammer they look the same on the manual

in order to make the 1/4" hex drive impact drive 1/4" or 3/8" sockets, you need a 1/4" hex adapter for sockets.

They are available at most hardware stores. While i've broken several sockets, and many screwdriver bits, I've never had an issue with with the socket adapters.

You can also get an adapter that gives you a chuck like a conventional drill.

If you've been working them hard, it's not a bad idea to remove them, and put them back in. this reduces the chance of getting the bit stuck from the repeated impact.

As far as changing the chuck of the unit to another one, i'm not sure if it's possible.
