My home phone has been out sometime between 9/16 and present (9/20). I called AT&T and the recording stated that due to the high volumn of calls from the hurricane and the flooding in the midwest, to report the repair on line. I went online and I need to have an Account Manager number or ID. After I requested this, it stated that I will receive it in the mail. What kind of repair service is this? Couldn't they have emailed it to me?

Phone less than a year old. no dial tone with inability to call out or receive calls. other phone functions seem to be working

First check if it is the phone or the line. Try replacing the cables. Use another phone (known working) to see if the jack has a dial tone with it. If you have dial tone on another phone and not on this phone with any set of RJ-11 cords, then send the phone to AT&T for repair. It had a 1 year warranty. Contact the customer service at www.telephones.att.com, or call 1 800 222-3111.

Try both phone on other jacks with that line, if available. If the phones work on other jacks but not on the first one, open up the faceplate and check for loose wires. Most either use screws to hold the wires or have keystones with punch downs. If you have the screw type, strip the wire strand if needed and resecure the wire. http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.aspx has the diagram of the wiring. The keystone punchdown tool is available at stores like Lowes and Home Depot, among others - in the section for wiring a new home.

Try then on another line, if possible. If the phones work here, then it is a general wiring issue on the other line.

Find where your telephone service comes in and see if the box has RJ-11 connections. Try your phones there. If the phones do not work at other jacks and the service connection is not RJ-11, call your telephone provider. They can test the line and will repair the line free if it is an outside issue. If the issue is inside, check all exposed wiring for damage. Check the jacks as well. If it is a problem inside the wall, you may want a professional. Your telephone service provider will probably fix it for a fee.

I hope this helps.

Not able to ring out or recieve calls on landline 01772465172

Is there a dial tone? Have you tried plugging in outside in the NID(phone box) on the side if the house. Take a corded telephone out to the box if it has a test port to plug into. If it does, plug in. If you have a dialtone, then the problems inside with either the station wires or jacks, or other equipment that is plugged into the jacks. Remove all devises from the jacks if trouble is inside and take a known working phone and plug it into a jack. if it works, plug in another device, so on and so on. Be sure to check dial tone, break dial tone by pressing a button. Hang phone up and see if dial tone has returned. If not, then that piece of equipment is bad.
If no dial tone at the NID, then call in a trouble report of NO DIAL TONE to the telephone company of cable provider. To save money if trouble is inside, purchase the inside wiring maintenance plan and then have them come work on the phone lines. After the service is restored, call and cancel the maintenance. $5 and you're back in service, provided that's all the teleco charges for wiring maintenance.

depending on what number you are dialing, if you live in an area where you can still dial 7 digits to reach your party, you should realize that your telephone provider sometimes changes calling zones without your knowledge, so what previously worked as a seven digit number, may require and area code plus the number, eg: 954-922xxxx or if the number you're dialing is out of your area code, you may have to dial, 1-972-922xxxx.
The last thought that comes to mind is that the number your dialing may be to an area that is having facilty troubles and the call can't go through until the problem is fixed.

When I use my telephone there is a sound as if I using dial up.

You used to have dial-up, so I guess you've switched to something better. DSL, perhaps? If that's the case, you need to have DSL filters on all phone jacks except the one your DSL modem plugs into. If you use a phone on an unfiltered jack, you'll hear a rushing noise in the background, and it will almost always severely degrade or cut off your DSL connection as well.

If this isn't what you're hearing, please post a follow-up with some more information about what noises you hear and problems you have, and I'll try to help further.

My home/land line phone will not get a dial tone

The disconnected message is generated by the telephone company. They should be consulted about that.

The noise and not being able to dial out sounds like a broken wire. If you call the number and the line is broken it should keep on ringing until the telephone company times you out.

It sounds as if you have more than one problem.

After you try some of these things give me some feed back.

Activating Call Forwarding

You can activate Call Forwarding whenever you want your calls to be sent to another phone, including a mobile phone. Once activated, all your calls will be sent to the forwarding number you request. Each time a call is forwarded, you will hear one short reminder tone on your home phone, but you will not be able to answer the call from your home number.

1. Lift your telephone's receiver and listen for a dial tone.

2. Press *7 2.
In some areas you must use 72#
Dial 1172 on rotary or pulse-dialing phones.

3. At the tone, dial the telephone number where you want your calls transferred.
You will hear the number you entered ring. When the number is answered, Call Forwarding is activated.

4. If the call is not answered or the line is busy, hang up and call the number again within two minutes.
You will hear two short tones telling you that Call Forwarding is activated.

5. Hang up the receiver.

Deactivating Call Forwarding

Turn Call Forwarding off when you want to receive calls on your home phone.

1. Lift your telephone's receiver and listen for a dial tone.

2. Press * 73.
In some areas you must use 73#
Dial 1173 on rotary or pulse-dialing phones.

3. Listen for two short tones.
Call Forwarding is now off and you will receive your calls at your home number.

Dial Tone but won't call out.

I just had the same problem. Try unplugging the plug from the electrical outlet for the home(base) unit and plugging back in. Fixed my problem right away.
