2004 Chevrolet Silverado Logo

I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado and a friend tried to put a SuperChip programmer on it and after he reset it to the factory setting, it has been idling low and stalling out. He said it would take a few days to the computer to realize what is going on. Is this correct? Do i need to reset my computer or get a factory tune from a dealer/mechanic?

Thank you for the direct question. The key word here is "tried". Your friend tried but he obviously done something wrong. I have used several power programers and have installed power chips on diesels and gasoline engines and only one has caused a problem, that was the "Jet" module on a Ford small block. If you know how to use them, they can and will change shift points, power bands, recalibrate your speedo per tire size and do other modifications.

I agree with the solution dms submitted, if there was a "learning stage" to go through, then the performance, towing and economy programs would have to go through them also. These aftermarket chips & programmers are all designed to plug & play.

I hope this helps.

Hi, Wait a week till things reset. If it still not working properly you can go to a mechanic. Good luck.

When installed correctly, there should not be a "week" for anything to reset. I never heard of waiting a week for any program that is modifying the electronic engine controls to correct itself. At this point, I'm guessing that your vehicle is running on set values that are not close to proper engine performance.
Contact superchip and they will tell you the same thing. They do not sell products that cause engines to stall or cause engines to run poorly, this happens when they are not installed correctly or something else is causing poor engine performance.

2004 Chevy Silverado. The Service Airbag light is on, but no error codes?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

Resetting the airbag light on your Chevy Silverado should be easy to do. Follow this video to watch it being done in a Chevy Silverado. To start with, you will:
  • Put the key into the ignition
  • Turn the key to the "on" position
  • Wait for the airbag light to turn on
  • Wait to continue until the airbag light turns off (around seven seconds)
  • Repeat the same steps twice more
  • Turn on your engine
After you take these steps, your airbag light should turn off. If it doesn't do so, then you should consider taking your vehicle in for diagnostic testing.

If the airbag light remains on, it could mean that something in the system is faulty. That could mean the airbag, the computer wiring, or another issue. Oftentimes, when the airbag light comes on unexpectedly, it is because of interference with the switch.

Reduce engine power after hooking up superchip

thats interesting, I plan on putting a HP CHIP in my 87 buick GN, but I know its not good to put super chip in, not intended for street vehicles. maybe its telling you to tone it down, maybe its telling you your engine may not handle this upgrade. or its not cpmpatable ! I would contact the manufactorer about this, they have a 1-800-number for tech questions . let me know

2004 silverado 6.0 4x4 2500 I bought truck with hyper tech 3 installed.Shift points wernt cool so i hook up programmer to take back to stock setting,in the middle of program it stopped and said invalid...

Hello. your best choice at this point, is take the truck to your local dealer and have them upload the factory software to the engine control module. the dealer is the only place you will be able to get the factory software. it is not uncommon to see a programing error in the middle of programming. the dealer will charge somewherebetwwen $50.00 and $100.00 to load the factory software

What can i do to my 2000 silverado with 5.3L to make it go faster i have a hypertehc max engery power programmer for it and was wondering if there are any cheap things i can do to it to make it faster,...

I tried the hypertech for my 2004 Silverado and it would not accept the programming so I returned it and got a Superchip programmer. I loved what it did for my truck. I maxed out everything which included the performance setting that requires 9 octane, I increased the 1-4 shift points by 500rpm each, I increased all the shift pressures for 1-4 gears and I eliminated the speed regulator. They claim 10% more HP and 13% more torque and they speak the truth. I also had a K&N intake and filter and a 2 chamber Flowmaster muffler with the exhaust cut off at the axle. It sounded so mean and it was significantly faster and more responsive. The most important thing to change is the shift pressures which will not only make each shift more solid and tight but it will extend the life of your transmission. They are set to slip from the factory to make the shifts smoother and longer which puts excessive wear on the transmission. My truck was a regular cab 5.3L with light duty power package that included the G85 option (locking differential. I use it as my profile picture. I traded it in on a Trailblazer SS but I wish I still had it. You have to understand that trucks are designed to haul things and the aerodynamics are not streamlined like a car so they play a huge part in limiting a trucks top speed and acceleration. The intake will help increase your low end (torque) and the exhaust will help with the top end and help the engine tach up a little higher. The power programmer will make them all work together beautifully. You can all 3 for around $800 and you won't run the chance of destroying your motor. I also noticed a gas mileage increase along with more power. You can't beat that combination. Please rate me on this answer.

2008 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD will not start

Are both batteries fully charged showing 12v? I ask this because I don't know if your friend's vehicle was charging. If it wasn't then when you put that battery back in your system it would reduce your overall voltage.

2004 chevy truck factory radio needs to be cleaned on the inside

Read the car manual, in the page were it shows the dashboard fuse panel find the radio fuse pull it out and put it back in with the fuse tool. This resets your radio, it did the trick for me with.
Just make sure if you disable the radio security lock if it enabled before you pull the fuse. It may lock you out, all the information is in the manual.
