Question about Kenmore 63682 / 63684 / 63689 Microwave Oven
Our 5 year old Kenmore Elite Ultrawave Microwave Hood Combination started making minor scrathing noises, but worked fine. Did this for about a week. Suddenly, it started emitting a LOUD buzzing sound when we attempted to heat something.
From other posts, I suspect that this is a power diode, high-voltage capacitor, or magnetron. All these sound scary.
Is it time for a new unit (>$400) or can it be repaired?
Thanks in advance!!

SOURCE: Microwave buzzing
It's likely a bad magnetron or maybe the high-voltage transformer. If it's within the warranty period of the magnetron (5 years or less), I would call Sears. In my professional opinion, no one should work on a microwave unless they are fully informed and aware of the deadly hazards and necessary precautions. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (without the suffix) here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

SOURCE: Microwave heats but slowly.
This is the second time I have requested assitance on this site with no response. The beginning of this thread dates back two months. Why would I ever want to pay for support when it is so poor at this level?

SOURCE: I have kenmore microwave model 721.80012401 it does not heat, I checked the magnetron thermostat, capacitor and the only thing that does not check out is the diode, can the diode cause this problem?
yes your diode can keep it from heating but it usually makes a loud growling if diode is bad. there is also another thermal disc on the other side of the oven that could be open. usually can see it in a hole in the plastic with 2 wires. if there is continuity on both this and the mag thermal, you may have a bad magnetron
