It is called the diverter, part #2136988 is most likely what is broke. But the part #2145170 is for the knob in case you need it. Most repair shops should be able to get this part for you, if not bissell.com should be able to give you the nearest servicer to you.

Bissell power steamer brushes will not turn

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller is not turning. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

The brush will not rotate. I thought this was a direct drive system.

Note: The brush will not rotate when the machine is locked in the upright position, because an internal micro-switch turns the brush motor off.

- Check the belt through the clear brush cover. If this appears damaged or broken, please take your machine to a local BISSELL Authorized Service Center to have this replaced. If the belt is intact, please continue checking the following:
- Ensure both power switches are turned on when you check for brush rotation.
- Unplug the power cord and remove the handle completely. Slide handle back into the lower section of handle, ensuring the screw is in tight. If the handle is not aligned properly, this will affect the power of the brush motor.
- Look for debris wrapped around the brush (i.e. string, hair, fibers, etc.). When the machine is unplugged, cut away any visible hair, fibers or debris from the brush roller. This brush is NOT removable from the machine.
- If something has become lodged in the foot and the brush shuts off, turn off the vacuum and unplug this from the outlet. You can now remove the obstruction. The brush will automatically reset when the vacuum is plugged in and turned back on.

If you continue to experience difficulty with this, please take your machine to the following Service Center in your area. The warranty on this machine is five years.

Brush will not turn

The most common problem is the handle isn't screwed in tight enough when the machine was assembled. Try tightening it down all the was and the electrical connections will then seat properly.

Brushes are switched on by lowering the handle which activates a micro-switch located inside the lower part of the machine. Vacuum must be running as well. The DC power for the brush motor comes from a Bridge rectifier located on the PC board located in the handle. I have drawings that might help you.

yes you can but it would require taking the entire hood of to replace it ( it hooks on inside there ) but those machines need to be opened very carefully and you need to make sure several pieces are back a certain way, so i would take it to an authorized bissell repair center, go to there website and put in your zip code to find the closest one to you.

First take off the belt cover on the side,
then turn it over, on the belt end of the brush roll, there is a red piece to hold in the brush roll, take out that screw and pull it off, the you can remove the end cap and cogged belt, Put the pump belt up thru the opening and around the bigger part of the pump pulley, grab the belt from the top side and put it around the motor shaft. Re-install the cogged belt, brush roll, cap and red lock.

Power brush on Green Bissell power steamer

Take off belt cover on the left side of the top cover, turn cleaner over, take out screw from red lock and remove, pull cap and brush roll out, unhook the cogged belt, then you can replace the pump thru that opening. Put belt over the pump pulley and stretched to go over the motor shaft. Then check the cogged belt and the cogged end of the pully to make sure that there are cogs, replace belt if there are cogss missing or belt is broke, if no cogs on the pulley, then you will have to replace the pump. Pulley only comes witht he pump.
