Try going into the bios and turning off any oboard graphics that you have. if this does not sort out the problem, try downloading a coaec pack like the k-light codec pack (just look on google) hope this helps

One of the little known "features" of Windows 8 is the removal of Windows Media Center which in previous versions of Windows was included. Windows Media Center allowed you to watch DVD's without having to download and install any other software. However the following link is a great article on apps that will allow you to watch DVD's on your new laptop:

I cant play some blu-ray disc how can i get some of them to work

since it doesn't have enough RAM in it, some BDs or larger multi-layer DVDs fail to play/load entirely Its slow to buffer BD, and even slower to upscale DVDs. It doesn't support homemade DVD+/-R movies. It also doesn't support video on CD.

SOLUTION:
to get the movie to play add a 4GB SD card into it and format it for use as extra memory. Apparently, some BDs require a lot of memory. By adding the SD card, DVDs and THE BDs load faster and have no play problems. The overall downside to the RAM issues and the SD card is that, when the SD card gets full, you will have to reformat it to get anything to play. Tho, all lost disc info needs to be rebuffered onto the card the next time you watch the movie.

Hi, my DVD player was bought in Hong Kong, brought it back to England to use. recently, it is not reading discs properly, always say"no disc", no problem to read card though. I am wonder how and...

DVDs are encoded with a "Region Code" to allow studios to control release dates around the world. Hong Kong Region Code is 3, UK is 2. Your player will not play back Region 2 DVDs that you are purchasing or renting in UK. It will work fine with Region Code 3 DVDs I would bet.

Sorry to deliver the bad news.

Not a solution, but this will still allow you to watch DVDs until you carefully research customer feedback on DVD players. (Which I didn't do when I bought my DVP3962!)

That happened to me after 6 months. I used the A/V cables, then after a week or so I tried HDMI again. It worked for another 5 months, and is now crazy colors again.

Why can't l play DVD's recorded on this recorder on other player

DVDs come in different versions.
Try using the -R DVDs. Once your DVD recorder finalizes the DVDs they should on any DVD palyer.

Check your manual to find out the finalizing method for your DVD recorder.

I hope this solution is helpful. Let me know.

Watching videos on a computer

Yes. DVDs are easy as you probably already know, you just need a DVD capable drive and appropreate software to play. VHS tapes are another matter altogether. You'll have to purchase something that will convert the analog signal from the VHS player to a digital signal your PC can use. I have a device I use to convert VHS tapes to DVD (ADS technologies) I could use to watch tapes but the software leaves a lot to be desred.
