I installeded the disc on both computers. I removed the installation from the desktop and reinstalled it. The disc installation is recognized on both computers. The printer is only recognized on the laptop. The connection required is USB. The desktop has several USB connections but none of them work. Help! John S.

The drivers need to be installed on both computers to work properly, if you have the install disc, install it to your gateway as well.

Sorry about that, missed the part about usb not working, On the gateway, if you enter the BIOS upon turning the computer on, check under perifials if im not mistaken and look to see if the usb ports are turned off on that system.

Cannot get my gateway ZX4800-3 desktop to send data to Printer

I wanted to provide some clarification to you. Once your devices (printer in this case) and computers are connected to your router, they have the connection. Now the communication settings between each computer and devices are to be configured on each computer individually. Obviously the first step would be to install the drivers that came with your printer on the new Gateway just like you did on your other computers. *This is undoubtedly where the problem lies.* You have a printer that was produced prior to Windows 7 being released. Check the website of the manufacturer of your printer to see if they have released a new driver for Windows 7. Download it to your new computer and install. That should take care of you.

Go into "printers and faxs",delete your printer and then reinstall it . It should be "plug and play"if not you will have to use your disc or let "windows" search for a driver.

My new gateway laptop fan runs continuously. it

Why do you think it is a problem? It is perfectly normal for laptops to get hot. That is the reason coolpads were invented. If you have a waterbed available, try using the laptop while it is sitting directly on the mattress. The water acts like a giant heat sink and the computer will stay much cooler.

I am trying to set a network using a wired desktop and a wireless laptop (desktop using XP and laptop using Vista)I am using a Linksys WRT160N, I can get on the internet with no issues at all but when...

in the router's lan (not wan) configuration - set the dhcp server (gateway address) to be 10.1.10.1. Then set the addresses of the clients (connected to the router) to be assigned addresses from 10.1.10.10 - 10.1.10.20. Set the desktop's TCP/IP address to be 10.1.10.11 (static) with a subnet of 255.255.255.0, and a gateway address of 10.1.10.1. Set the laptop's wireless connection (TCP/IP adapter) to have a static 10.1.10.12 address with same subnet mask and gateway address of desktop. Change the workgroup on both computers to be of the same name (case sensitive here) to a name such as HOMENETWORK. Then on each computer, open up "My Computer" and right click on folders, files or printers that you want to share on your network!
