More than likely the antenna cable has come loose from the back of the unit. Head to Walmart and get a removal tool, pull the radio, and resecure it.

If the antenna is on the front, pop the hood, and locate where the antenna wire connects to the bottom of the antenna and make sure it is connected well. If everything checks out there, you will have to pull the radio from the dash, and look at the back of it. There will be a large black wire by itself connected to the radio. Push it in to make sure its connected as well. That could really be your only problem unless your radio happens to have a fault on the inside which is extremely rare. Hope that helps

Are the amps working on other input sources? If not it could be the amp section of your receiver causing the issue.

If amps are ok then it has to be a circuit that both the am and fm tuners have in common since both are affected. U would need a schematic to identify the common area (s).

I CAN ONLY RECEIVE 2 OR 3 RADIO CHANNELS ON MY INSIGNIA RECEIVER

Radio tuners receiving AM and FM channels/broadcast MUST have some sort of antenna connection. For local channels a paper clip will work, but for more distant channels, use either a better inside antenna or purchase a outside antenna as needed.

To improve reception, use a 75 Ohm outdoor antenna instead of an indoor antenna. Disconnect the indoor antenna before replacing it with an outdoor antenna.

Does the display show "tuned" or "FM Stereo"? This would normally indicate a good reception. The tuner has a signal level threshold and if the signal gets to week, the receiver mutes to prevent noise in the speakers. Swithing to mono make reception less intolerant. Does the problem also occur, when you switch to mono?

FM static

Hi suebu,

So you got it to go with an antenna. FM tuners are real quiet generally unless they get some sort of signal to unmute them. Even a length of speaker wire split for about 100cm each way(this is called a dipole), then hung vertically will get you great reception.
