I have a zoom lens

I have a zoom lens on a Nikon D300 which has a filter lens attached. The camera must have taken a knock since the filter lens is cracked but there's ne sign of damage to the zoom. Problem is a can't unscrew the filter - I've applied as much pressure as I wish to.
Any suggestions?
