It isn't your Internet it's Vista. But there is some things you can do to help that bloated POS OS operate better.

1) In control panel go into the system and select the advanced tab. Under performance set it to optimize for performance. It'll take away all the bling and return those resources to your applications.
2) Use Chrome, Opera, Firefox, or any other browser then IE. Microsoft has openly stated that they are not designing for speed but appearance. That means slow Internet connections become lethargic on Vista.
3) Get rid of toolbars...Google toolbar, Yahoo toolbar, Weatherbug, AOL Toolbar. They are all just slowing you down.

My modem gets heated after half an hour or less. I am using dsl cable broadband connection. Would you please give me the instruction to stop the modem heating and also the browser to work faster

Unfortunately, there's no real way to stop a modem from heating up. But if it overheats, then you should probably get a replacement, as most modems get warm but don't overheat. Call your internet service provider and they should provide you with a replacement.

And about your browser, DSL is inherently very slow, so it will always be that way. There's no real fix for that as long as you're still using DSL. If you want faster speeds, try a different ISP.

6 Months with Embarq - No bandwidth at night

when u get dsl that means bandwidth is not guaranteed. 1.5Mbps is the maximum theoretical bandwidth. You can't expect more than that. DSL is a shared network. So if you want to get dedicated bandwidth you have to go to other technologies like leased lines :) . They can't do anything. MTS can never be achived in practice.

Slow lan connection

it is most likely because the usb port in your computer is a version 1.1 not 2.0 which is much faster. i have the same issue on my desktop. the only way to update it is to buy a new usb port and card.

Windows xp slow internet explorer slow c:drive

My name is ArmyMason, might I suggest trying ccleaner and see if that resolves the issue. CCleaner cleans out registry and could resolve some issues. Here is a link that shows registry tweeks to help with speed issues also.

If this doesnt work might I suggest checking out our premium service and chat live with a tech.

Slow running videos

Yes, that is absolutely the problem. Flash videos, like the kind from YouTube, are reading information in what is supposed to be real time - dial-up is just way too slow to play those kinds of videos. The phone companies - Verizon, AT&T, etc - will not advertise this, but you can get DSL-only without having to install a landline telephone line for $19.99 to $29.99 per month depending on your carrier. Verizon calls it "Dry Loop DSL" - other carriers might call it something different - and you can only order it if you ask for it specifically - they will otherwise pretend not to know what you're talking about. Go to the comapnies' website and grab any coupon they might have directly off the internet, or they will not give you the best price (they have internet-only specials).

If you already have cable service, however, go with their internet service - it is worth every penny.

Windows 98 changing from dialup to high speed

You can do this, but I would not recommend it. Windows 98 is very susceptible to malware. You can get things just by going to the wrong website. These are called drive by downloads. It will get very slow from all of the malware running on the system very fast.

Look into downloading a Linux distribution like Ubuntu, or PCLinuxOS. You will be able to find a linux distro that will fit on your old computer and be very secure. Look at Distrowatch for many more options.

It is not possible to use Windows 98 on the Internet and remain secure. If you post the model/serial number of the compaq computer, or its stats then we could tell you if you can upgrade it to XP or Windows 2000, but this may not be practical on older equipment.
