Min will come on with the garmin screen then show a screen saying "loading maps" then it just turns dead off and won't do anything more then that. I only used it for about 2 weeks before it started doing this :-(

I had the same problem, returned it to Costco and got another one. It also failed, so in black screen state I unplugged unit from power, waited 30 seconds and reconnected power. Screen came alive and normal startup proceeded. I am using Garmin's anti-theft system and have noted that these failures occur when I apply power to unit and then do not log on. After a couple of times, it will not power up. Then I use the above procedure and this corrects the problem.

I had the same problem. The GPS was working one day and not the next. I'm an engineer and decided to "look under the hood". My warranty is out and I don't recommend you do this. What I found was a lousy hardware design. Turns out the "ribbon" connector from the battery to the "mother board" was TAPED in place. This is a lousy design and will fail given if the device is left in the car where heat can build up and loosen the tape or over time the tape will fail, either way it is not built to be robust. Bottom line, it needs to be returned to the factory to be fixed. GARMIN shame on you after we spend hundereds of dollars on your products.

I have a lowrance 522c and 2 of my arrow buttons quit working is there anywhere I can take it to get fixed?

Any local PC repair shop could potentially repair it. You might also want to check the warranty with the manufacturer.

My Garmin Forerunner 305 quit working at mile 15-ish during my 26.2-mile journey. There was a faint sound but the screen was blank. It doesn't seem to charge. I tried soft reboot by pressing on the MODE...

Try hard reset.

Hold mode + start for ten seconds (device off beforehand). Keep holding then pulse push lap/reset button.

You get a screen asking to return to default settings. You will loose all your data, but device should work then

255W Garmin GPS not working.

Short answer, is yes, you now have a nice dash ornament, as for repairs not to likely. Motherboard on this would have been live right up to the point that it shorted itself out. Time to look for a new one. Sorry

Nuvi 350 on off problems

This is a common problem with the Nuvi series. The on/off switch is a surface mount switch that is mounted vertically off of the main PC board.

The problem is, that there is no support behind the switch, so when you press down the button, the solder leads of the switch are stressed and eventually break off the main PC board. This is a design flaw and could have been easily prevented by wedging a small piece of plastic between the rear of the switch and the SD card housing to give the switch support.

Also, the solder pads for the mechanical connections of the switch could have been made bigger, allowing for more surface area and more solder application.

I have repaired many of these before and I'll be posting a step-by-step procedure on how to fix this and prevent it from happening again.

I must point out however, that in order to make this repair, you will need to have skills in dissassembly and soldering.

Also, please only attempt this procedure if your unit is out of warranty.

Ultra Sensitive Screen

I had the same problem. I took off the plastic screen protecter that I had placed on it (the same plastic you place on a camera screen to stop it from getting scratched and dirty) and cleaned out the crevices around the screen as I thought that maybe the dirt and the plastic was pushing on the screen and making it super sensitive. (and there was quite a bit of grime after owning it for a little over a year) So far it solved the problem. Hope this works for you.
When I called Tom-Tom they told me I could not get it repaired after the warranty was over, which means no more Tom-Tom products for me, and that the only way it might work would be for me to erase all memory and re-download... and I would have lost all of the voice programs on it. The voice instructions was the only reason I purchased it at $400. Now I own a new Garmin as back up on the road in case this thing should break down. At least the Garmin can be sent in for repairs once the warranty is over. Good luck!
