Sansui D-77R Cassette Deck

Missing reverse head part.

SOURCE: Cassette Deck doesn't auto reverse

This is a common problem....with tapes.....in the old days there was a shiny end of tape (EOT) sticker placed on the tape end which was detected as the tape end and caused the electronics to reverse the motor drive to play in the teverse direction.

If consumers alter the length of the tape by cutting and joining they used to cut off the EOT sticker and then the tape wouldnt reverse like in your case.

Now days a hi frequency signal is recorded on the tape and a detector circuit inside sees this signal and reverses the tape for you,

I would suggest that the simplest thing to do is to clean the playback head with a cotton bud and some special head cleaning alcohol.
There jusy may be a build up of magnetic material on the play back head which is stopping the high frequency signal getting through to the detector circuitry.

Different manufacturers do this EOT detection in different ways but the head clean is the first line of attack that you can do yourself.

Please turn off the power before doing this activity and be very careful with the cotton bud that you are not rough and dont push too hard on the recording/play back head.. Be gentle...
The cleaning liquid must be proper head cleaning liquid, so dont try shorth cuts and use just anything to do the cleaning or you may ruin the detector head surface.

The quality of play back sound will also improve from a good clean..

SOURCE: wheels on the tape deck don't turn on either side,

You have a broken transfer belt and it needs replacement.
This will require you to take the tape deck apart to service it.

I need to know how I can hook up my Teac EQA 5 equalizer to my Sansui AUD 9 power amp.. I lost the manual to the E/Q

It is very easy, you don't need a manual for this. The EQ line in and Line out get hooked into the record out and Tape in of one of the tape loops on the Sansui amp. Record outs go to EQ in and the EQ out goes to tape play.

All you can do is look on E bay for someone who is selling such an item. The fact that they are no longer produced is going to make the price high. This is the reality of cassette tape decks these days.

Sony dual deck, deck B works fine, deck A won' run the tape but just keeps clicking as it auto-reverses.

Hi amitchell47,
The rubber belts that turns the gears is already worn out. Usually, there are two rubber belts in a cassette deck. You have to replace both belts. I hope everything works out. Good luck.

Interested in hearing feedback about having purchased this product - JVC KS-FX200 - (purchase included installation) today, 8/18/2009. CD Changer NOT included in installation, but installation substituted...

I don't know this model in particular but JVC is supposed to be a good name.

As for being a cassette player, I hope you either have a bunch of cassettes stored away somewhere or at least another cassette deck to record your favorite music onto blank tapes because cassettes are pretty much obsolete so you pretty much can expect nothing new to be released on them and only find them in pawn shops, flea markets or garage sales, etc...

Some features I would look for in a cassette deck are things like Automatic Music Search, Music Scan (uses AMS and plays a couple seconds of each track), Dolby NR, Dolby B and Dolby C, Auto Reverse with Ferret Head(head actually flips over instead of a 4 channel head).

Aiwa z-1800, cassette deck problems, clicking and clonking, not playing and no auto reverse, has any one fixed one of these or is a replacement deck available/worth it, as I see from this site that all...

The auto reverse is a two part system, the heads are moved and the motors change direction. Slipping belts, broken gears, dirt in the gears can all cause this type of symptom. These are decent units and I would invest in a general overhaul to bring it back to factory spec. I have done a number of these in the past and would recommend the overhaul. Expect $10-$20 in rubber parts plus the local labor rate.
