We have a 2420dn with duplexing. 2 trays plus manual feed tray 1
Printer has worked well since new but now has developed a problem with thinner paper, 60 gram. It creases the paper with a neat 8mm concertina fold about 160mm from front of sheet, then jams in outfeed.
From tray 2 & 3 it does this every time. with tray 1 it works most of the time, but every so often it creases as described above.
80 gram paper works ok from any tray and all the time!!

Re: Creasing and jaming 60 gram paper
1. change the paper type setting to the lightest media setting you can find. this will be found in the paper handling menu. make sure that you do this on every tray that you will run the lighter media through. the reason for this change is to adjust the timing and temperature ranges in the machine.
2. if that doesn't help then try printing simplex (one sided) to see if the jamming is still in the same place. if the jam persists then you have a fuser problem, if not then your issue is in the duplex ***'y.
Having said all of this, blow the machine out with canned air before any of this with the toner cartridge removed. the reason for this is not just the obvious cleaning, but to find broken sensor flags. they will look like flat plastic pieces that will be white or gray on one end. if you find one of these flying out of your machine then there is your problem. Good Luck!
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

There are several thing which may cause unexpected jams in the duplex tray..., 1. first thing to do is eliminate all other possibilities by removing the netCard/Net connection Parralel connection so the machine is Stand Alone. make sure there is paper in the feed cassette 2 ( paper Tray) press the TICK to enter menu scroll down to diagnostic- press TICK scroll down to paper path test - press Tick scroll down to Source and select tray 2 scroll down to Duplex And select YES ( if the duplex option is not visible here then there is a connection/seating problem with the duplex tray) Scroll down to copies and select 10 scroll up to print test page and press tick the machine should now start duplexing 10 pages, if you get the same error ( 1 page enters then jams) it could be a dirty/snapped paper entry sensor,( looks like a little plastic match stick that protrudes into the feed path of the paper) use a can of pressurised air to Blast any dust away from this arm and the surrounding area being careful to follow the Paper sensor Arm back to the sensor and blasting this as well- Duplexer tray are cheaper than an engineer call out, if the fix above fails , your cheapest option may be a replacement Duplexer tray, available from most HP office equipment Stores as well as Belmonte Business Equipment.
The only way to duplex print on a standard 2420 is to print the first page, then take that page and re-insert it into the paper tray face up. Then print page 2 onto the back of page 1. If you want to automatically duplex print then you need a 2420DN printer which has the duplexing paper path as well as the formatter board with the duplex firmware.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.
You are getting Error 13.12 due to paper jam at Paper feed 1. It can also happen when the Paper doesn't reach PS2(paper sensor 2).
Please check the picture for more details---
Try printing from Tray 2 or Tray 3, if it fails printing from tray 2 or 3 then Paper sensor 2 (PS2) is bad. To check the movement of flag insert the paper manually in the sensor path.
Remove any paper present in printer and then perform a paper path test using a duplexer. If issue is still not resolved then please remove the duplexer unit and re seat it. After re seating the duplexer your issue will be resolved.

If you really have an HP 4350dtn (d = duplexer), then the duplexer is not connected correctly. Look at the back of the printer for the duplexer. It prtrudes from the back drop down tray and is used to print on both sides. I would pull it out and push it back in to make sure all connections are tight.
Tray number 1 is the manual feed tray in the front of the unit.
First, the machine always prints the first page first. Make sure you have the right driver (4 plus and not 4)and check the settings in the device settings of your printer driver on the pc. Also make sure the duplex unit is for the 4 plus and not the 4.
