If you have already tried inserting a new Magenta cartridge & have checked to make sure that the piece of tape that covers the bottom of the ink cartridge has already been removed - then trying cleaning your print heads & aligning the printer.
You can access the cleaning features on your printer by pressing the menu key and using the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll the options until you see the maintenance catagory - then click on it. Continue scrolling the options with the arrow keys until you see the clean the print heads or print nozzles choice, then click on or accept to start the process. follow the prompts on the printer and try cleaning at least twice, then try a test page. If this does not solve the issue, then go back to the menu key and return to the maintenance area and choose align print heads instead. Press ok or accept to start the alignment process and follow the prompts on the printer until its completed. Check the print out to see if the color has printed. If it has not printed then you might want to try cleaning the print head area in the printer yourself.
To clean the print head area yourself, open the printer to bring the ink cartridges front and center to make sure they are accessible to you. Then turn the printer off and unplug it from the wall. Press and hold the power button for 45 to 60 seconds. Then open the printer so you can see the ink cartridges and remove them all. The print heads are located right below the area where the ink cartridges are installed. There should be a plastic tab to press or pull right under the ink cartridge carrier to access the print heads. Print heads look like plastic square containers with sponge heads on top. Remove each print head one by one and use a dry lint free cloth to clean up and ink spill you see there. Use warm water to clean the brass connections on the print head and in the machine to remove any dried ink. You can also use Qtips and alcohol mixed with water to remove any stubborn or stuck ink. When finished press the sponge to make sure its wet and not hard and dried out. Then reinsert them, plug the machine back in and turn it on. Try a test page or the alignment process one more time to see if you issue is solved.
If all of the above does not solve your issue, I suggest contacting Canon for assistance.
