Toshiba Projection Problem

I have a Toshiba Model TZ55X71 Projection Television and have a real problem.

It has always worked fine until one morning we went to turn it on and nothing happened except the power light blinking. (No sound, no picture, no static or anything.)

I unplugged it from the wall and back in and it came on. Thought all was well but the next time we shut it off the same thing happened. I once again unplugged and plugged it in and it came on. This is the only way we could get it to come on and it always worked this way.

Well, it didn't take long for us to get tired of that so I contacted a local Toshiba repair service and they came and got it. After a few days they told me they could find no problem with it and that it wouldn't act up for them. They kept it for about a week and then said they "may" have found the problem with a loose connection or cracked connection and $360.00 later brought it back. Well, guess what, the next morning I went to turn it on and the same old problem was there. I once again unplugged and plugged in and it came on.

Needless to say it is back to the repair service again and they are once again telling me they can't find a problem.

I have read many threads about this same kind of a problem and a few different suggestions and I am really getting tiered of the repair people telling me there is nothing wrong with my set. BY THE WAY, I did show the two service guys that picked up the TV how it did not work and they saw that while at my house.

I have taken out of surge suppresser and run straight to wall and even tried different outlets with no luck.

I really need someone who knows what they are doing to give me an idea what is wrong with this TV. It works perfect in ever other way.

Thank you very much,
Larry

The problem will be dried out electrolytic capacitors, usually in the power supply. If I may digress for a moment, we had similar with a philips TV many years ago with an epedemic of blowing transistors. We could not fault these sets till wise old George V stuck a set near the door in the loading bay overnight. Next morning he wheeled it into the air conditiond workshop and plugged in and it blew the transistor. Their workshop is warm, as such there is no fault, your TV may be near a window or getting a cold draught and that is enough to cause a problem. I find it surprising that they dont realise its a heat fault, but dont give in, they are an agent, if need be go to their boss. Oh! and dont move the thing to fix the fault, Yes it may work but are we going to be governed by the eccentricities of TVs as to how we govern our lives
