It's not possible to set the timecode like in ordinary cameras. What you do is put the camera in JAM Sync mode and put it in a TC Signal at the TC connector, for example from an audio recorder.

Just got this nice camera today from the pawn shop. Was wondering how to set time, date and things of that nature

I have attached a link to the user manual for this camcorder. The time and date settings are located in the menu options under "SYSTEM". Page 43 of the user manual will walk you through setting it up.

Hope this helps you.

Red blinking on screen.

This symbol indicates that the backup (date/time) battery CR2025 needs to be replaced. This battery is held in a holder that slides out from the bottom of the camera. Pages 8 and 104 in the manual (available here) detail how to do this.

Hi8 sony time code camera

Unfortunately solution #1 is incorrect. Many Sony Hi8 camcorders had the ability to store timecode information on the tapes. My TR3400 is one of them. It is not stored in the same way as the newer digital cameras, but it is there nonetheless. It is not permanently imprinted in the picture either, it can be turned on or off at will during playback if you chose to date stamp your footage when you took it (it was optional). See this list for a partial list of cameras that did support it:

I have had my hopes that the Digital8 cameras could provide the required translation to DV timecode, but I keep hearing conflicting reports, typically the answer is no. There is a third party product that was created to help solve this problem though: It is not particularly cheap but if you really need the timecode it looks like the only real alternative at this point. I have not used it myself yet, but may have to as well.

RCA small wonder EZ 101 won't power up

I found that the RCA Small Wonder is very touchy when it comes to batteries. My unit went out 2x on me and I almost there it out. First time for no reason except I tried to put videos on computer. 2nd time I put rechargable batteries that I asume we're to powerful for the unit. I let it sit for a while and put regular AcDelco batteries in it and it was fine.

Time code breaks

have the PD170 professionally cleaned; a worn pinch roller causes time code inaccuracies like the ones you are describing.

Flashing power light

same problem, my nv-ds50 powers up, but with the with power light flashing in twos and then powers itself down. The menu button sometimes works briefly when it's powered up. I had been transferring video back to mini dv tape from the pc (pinnacle studio 8) when I first encountered the problem and was wondering if I damaged something in the camera by powering up/down in the wrong sequence using my firewire cable?? I also seem to have a lower case "f" to the right of the timecode when it powers up - & cannot find any documentation as to what that could mean (although perhaps it's a "t" for timecode?)...I tried the c.reset option in "display setup" a few minutes ago - no luck then...but hey bingo, now I seem to have it back on line again ...go figure!
