• Belt platen lock
• Causes:
• The belt platen elevation mechanism cannot be set properly.
  200 S03 Transfer belt motor timeout The motor shaft encoder of the transfer belt motor does not attain the specified pulse count within the specified time. The required movement does not complete even when the transfer belt motor operates for the specified interval. 201 S03 Transfer belt unit sensor error The three sensors that determine the position of the belt platen produced an abnormal detection result. 231 S03 Belt platen operation error The upper limit position sensor fails to activate when the belt platen rises. 240 S03 Belt platen operation error The upper limit position sensor fails to deactivate when the belt platen lowers. 241 S03 Belt platen operation error The lower limit position sensor fails to activate when the belt platen lowers. 242 S03 Belt platen operation error The lower limit position sensor fails to deactivate when the belt platen rises. 243 S03 Belt platen operation error The vacuum positioning sensor fails to activate when the belt platen operates. 244 S03 Belt platen operation error The vacuum positioning sensor fails to deactivate when the belt platen operates.
• Remedy:<>Reset power, or execute [Clear error] in Test mode. <>Some errors (such as PCB disconnection) may not be cleared by executing [Clear error]. <>Even if an S error occurs, it may be possible to continue operations using another unit. Therefore, certain error types require a specific reset procedure (described in Error Point).

Take it in for service, or replace all the sensors if you can find them for sale.

Sometimes Door open error shows in printer even if it is closed .

Follow This steps to Fix Open Door Error Message:-

*Close the cartridge access door completely.
*Check the cartridge door for obstruction.
*Reset the Printer
*Restart the Print Spool Device.

Dear
If you are sending the fax using ADF, there may be the document jam, Open the ADF cover check the path for any foreign objects.
Also you can send from platen glass without document jam.

Also this may happen to the other end fax machine, better you do a test copy from ADF and Platen glass. and confirm your fax machine is ok.

The printer displays a 'Cover open, please close cover' error message, even though the cover is closed.

This can happen if the lever on the cover open sensor is knocked off the switch assembly.

Load the paper and close the forms thichness guide. If the error does not clear, power off and unplug the printerRemove the paper guide assy or pedistal top cover. Disconnect connector P107from controller PCB. Check continuity of platen interlock switch from P107 to switch. Replace the platen intetrlock switch if it fails continuity

Its located in the adjustment section of the platen control or in the platen itself.

Lexmark may still be supporting this model printer.

You can try this it some times works.

Super Canon User's method of resetting IP1600
1.Press Resume button hold for 1 - 2 minutes (count to 1 to 15-16)
2.Open the cover right away
3.Release Both cartridges out and then put cartridges them back again
4.Close The Cover
5.Turn Off Then Turn On again.

1. Download software for Canon iP1200, iP1600, 2200 Printers.
2. Unzip downloaded file by etc
3. Run GeneralTool.exe
4. Select the connected USB port number from USB PORT
5. Click LOCK RELEASE, and select the applicable model name in SET DESTINATION
6. In CLEAR WASTE INK COUNTER, select MAIN or PLATEN. The selected waste ink counter will be reset. MAIN resets the main waste ink counter, PLATEN resets the platen waste ink counter.
If both the main and platen waste ink absorbers are replaced, reset both the main and platen waste ink counters.

Found the solution at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=239&modelid=13170&kbpage=yes , then enter "clean platen glass" in the search window, and select item #1 "ERROR LCD: PLATEN GLASS DIRTY, CLEAN PLATEN GLASS ". This gives step-by-step instructions on how to clean the area dealing with the platen glass.

When you open and close the platen lever you will notice micro switch that should be engaged... When the lever is down to A - C. looks like this... only 2 other things it could be besides the switch... 152417-001 P5000 Platen Interlock Switch
If anybody has been in the printer where PCBA's are, check the two cable connectors holders... seated good... worst case,it would be very rare if its CMX Board(main logic)...
