Hi. I'm not sure, but it sounds like you have a watermark set on the document. If you are using Microsoft WORD, go to PAGE LAYOUT and click WATERMARK, then REMOVE WATERMARK.  (I have Word 2007) I'm not sure how to do this on previous versions. Hope this helps.

Hi Mel:
Just a thought, is there a "greyscale" setting?
When I try to print I have the choice of Black & White, colour, and greyscale.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

HP 2600 is printing with a grey background. I have done several recalibrations and cleaned it but it does not fix the problem.

same as me, I got reduce this effect printing in normal paper as if i where printing transparency paper. The background is lighter now, but still appears.
The other thing I test, printing a blank page it was that with a glosy photo paper with the gloss side to the back i dont get any background. So i suspect it has to do with the tansfer belt ETB rollers.

When I print out a Word document the word ?DRAFT? appears across the page horizontally. Why?

Go into the "properties/preference" of the printer, and under "extras" or something similar, look for "watermark". Be sure to set it to "No Watermark", else you'll get that "draft" stamp each time you print something.

Ink is comming out very light. Just bought the printer tonight.

Very light printing results is probably due to printing in "draft mode"

Please click the "Properties" opposite the Printer name in the Print dialog box (this appears when you print a document or anything) and set your Quality Options to Normal or any mode but not the "Draft" mode.

Also, if the above suggestion do not work, go to Start => Settings => Printers and Faxes and right click on your printer, then click on Printing Preferences. In the Maintenance Tab, click the Head Cleaning button to clean and fully charge your ink.

I have it set to print in black only but it uses up the color ink anyway. What gives?

Hi,
On the printer driver, (after click "print" and the menu for selecting the printer appears and you can select the number of copies etc...go to"properties") . Here go to the "Color" tab.. if you truly only want to use black ink, then select "Print in greyscale" and select "Black only". After that just Click "OK" at the bottom and "Ok" to print your job in truly just black ink. :)
Cheers, Ed

Check your printer settings, If your printer is set on draft mode the prints may appear faded washed out, turn up the quality of the printing and this should solve the problem.

Check the default print quality. It may be set to "Draft". Also, there are numerous additional settings within the printer driver. Verify the quality settings first.
