Update the BIOS. There is an issue with some older ASUS motherboard and XP SP2. If the new BIOS doesn't work, you may have to work around the problem. I came about this problem last month. I couldn't install and new BIOS firmware doesn't work. I installed the system unto the harddisk using another PC, and place it back to the system unit, place the installation CD and chose the FIX OS option.

Errror 85

How to fix the System error 85 has occurred? One thing to mention is that even though you may be mapping some drive letter to a network resource, the same drive letter for other Terminal Services sessions may work as expected.

Use another drive letter...
Another point is that a different drive letter that is not typically used also works as expected. If it is feasible for you, use different drive letter when mapping to your network resource.

Restart Terminal Services-based component...
If using another drive letter to map your network resource is not an option, you can try to correct the issue by restarting the Terminal Services-based component.

Restart Terminal Services...
Another way to fix the problem is to restart the whole Terminal Services service. You can do so by executing the following steps:

-> Go to the Start Menu
-> Run
-> Type services.msc and hit ENTER
-> Locate Terminal Services
-> Right click it and select RESTART

This should break the connection between the Terminal Services and the resource and make the network drive letter available for your use.

Upgrade Windows...
The good news is that some attempts have been made by Microsoft to handle this error message and the underlying causes by Windows. The System error 85 has occurred was often visible in Microsoft Windows 2000. The Service Pack 3 and Service Pack 4 include some fix for this.

How would i go about formatting a computer?

How to Format a Computer

Want to know how to format a computer hard drive?Need to learn how to format your computer and start with a clean slate? Formatting a disk prepares the surface of the drive to accept and store data. Computers are often formatted before they are sold, donated, or returned to an employer. Likewise, computers with viruses or errors can be formatted and returned to their "out of the box" settings.

Warning - Formatting hard drive information does not permanently erase the data. Even after a computer has been formatted, deleted files can be easily recovered. If you want to permanently wipe your hard drive by completely overwritting hard drive data, check out WipeDrive.

How to Format a Computer with Windows XP
The first step in learning how to format a computer with Windows XP or 2000, is to insert Windows CD and restart your computer.

Your computer should automatically boot from the CD to the Windows Setup Main Menu.

At the Welcome to Setup page, press ENTER.

Press F8 to accept the Windows XP Licensing Agreement.

If an existing Windows XP installation is detected, you are prompted to repair it. To bypass the repair, press ESC.

Use the ARROW keys to select the partition or the unpartitioned space where you want to create a new partition. Press D to delete an existing partition, or press C to create a new partition.

Type the size in megabytes (MB) that you want to use for the new partition, and then press ENTER, or just press ENTER to create the partition with the maximum size.

Select the format option that you want to use for the partition (Recommended: NTFS), and then press ENTER.

After the Windows Setup program formats the partition, follow the instructions that appear on the screen to continue installing Windows.

How to Format a Computer with Windows 95, 98, or ME
To reinstall Windows, you will need a Startup Diskette and a Windows Installation CD.

Download the Startup Diskette Creator

Note: We recommend using the Startup Diskette available on this page. Other Windows Startup Diskettes may not work with the following steps.
Once you have your Startup Diskette, insert it into the floppy drive and restart your computer.

Select option #1 - Start the computer with CD-ROM support.

After a minute or so, you will see "A:>_".

Type "fdisk" and press Enter.

If asked to enable large disk support, select Y for Yes. (Note: Some versions of Windows 95 may not be compatible with large disk support. Select N here if it does not support the FAT32 file system.)

Select Option #1 - Create DOS partition or Logical DOS Drive.

Select Option #1 - Create Primary DOS Partition.

The drive integrity will be verified.

Unless you are planning to make multiple partitions, select Y when asked if you want to use the maximum available size for the partition and to make the partition active.

The drive integrity will be verified again.

When completed press the Esc key to exit fdisk.

Without removing the floppy disk, press the reset button on the computer or press the keys Ctrl then Alt then Delete and release them together. This will restart the computer.

Again, select the option to Start the computer with CD-ROM support.

When you see A:>, directly above it is a message about your CD-ROM drive. It will tell you the letter assigned to your CD-ROM drive, take note of it.

At the A:>, type "format C:" and press Enter.

Press the Y key then the enter key when asked if you want to proceed with the format.

The format will probably take some time, so be patient.

You will be asked to choose a Volume Label, which is a name for your hard drive. It has no effect on the operation of your computer, you may choose any name you like.

How to Reinstall Windows XP
To reinstall Windows XP or 2000, imply insert Windows CD and restart your computer.

If your hard drive has not been formatted, Windows XP will walk you through the formatting process described above

Your computer will automatically boot from the CD and begin the installation process

How to Reinstall Windows 95, 98, or ME
After formatting your hard drive as described above, insert the Startup Diskette into the floppy drive and restart your computer.

Select option #1 - Start the computer with CD-ROM support.

After a minute or so, you will see "A:>_".

Place the Windows Install CD into the CD-ROM drive.

Type "E:" (where E is the letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive) and press the Enter key.

Type "dir" and press Enter. You will see something like the following:

Volume in drive E is 020409_1121

I've format my motherboard with windows7 but unfortunately while it was formatting it reboot and the screen dissapear and just come out a blank screen

A little clarification - I assume you actually mean you were installing Windows 7 on your computer?
If you have a valid Windows 7 CD/DVD, put it in the drive of the computer, restart and enter the BIOS setup screen (you will see instructions on the screen as the computer boots up, might say press "esc" or "delete" key to enter BIOS or something similiar.)
MAKE SURE that the PC can boot from the DVD drive; this is normally an option in the BIOS marked "boot order"; make sure the CD/DVD drive is at the top.
Restart and the installation should start again.

Soyo sy-p4vgm motherboard unable to access BIOS setup menu

Offcourse! first of all insert CD into CD ROM then boot from cd. Select your CD drive like d: or e: or f: etc and then press enter. Now give a commond format c:/u/v and press enter. After the formating drive you can install windows 98 so now reboot your system again. Then boot from CD once again and choose your drive and install windows.
2nd way, If everything could not be possible then you should boot from CD again then select your CD drive and type a command fdisk and press y or enter 2 times. Now you choose 4 number and press enter and check the drive format if it is not FAT32 its mean that you should press 3 and then press 4 and now press enter then press escape. Then press three button at a time Ctrl+Alt+Del now your system will reboot now once again Boot from CD and choose CD drive and type fdisk and choose 1 then choose1 and now press enter and once again press three button at a time Ctrl+Alt+Del now your system will reboot. Once again boot from CD and select your CD drive and now you can install windows 98 now insert CD into CD ROM then boot from cd. Select your CD drive like d: or e: or f: etc and then press enter. Now give a commond format c:/u/v and press enter. After the formating drive you can install windows 98 so now reboot your system again. Then boot from CD once again and choose your drive and install windows.
Thank You
