I have a dx4720-03 and it will not boot up. The blue light behind the power button pulses slow. Could the mother board and or the CPU be the problem?

Hi there,

The motherboard could be the problem. However, you should first check that the master HDD to check if it is corrupted. You can check by either taking the HDD out of the computer and putting it in another computer as a slave HDD (it must be set as a slave drive because the HDD would not work as a master in another computer because the operating system has been configured to run on that one specific computer), you would need to change the drive from a master to a slave by changing the jumper pin found on the one side of the HDD, there should be a diagram on the top of the HDD which will show you how to change the drive from a master to a slave. Then just check that all of the data is on the drive. If it is then you know that the motherboard or the cpu is faulty.

The other thing you could do is if you have another HDD you can swap it out and test if it is working.

Hope this was helpful. Thank you for using FixYa! Have a nice day and please remember to rate this solution.

Slave is ok but master freezes...

you can install even if it is a slave disk. also you can try setting the jumpers to master mode, check the sides of the hdd, it has a jumper setting and set it to master, using the shorting pin, just plug it out and connect it to the right setting

Laptop 2nd HDD(Slave) running max 20mb/s

Why not install a new 2.5" hdd in your laptop caddy.I replaced my 40gb with a 160gb, works fine and the data tranfer speed is better than a slave configuration. The average speed of around 40mb/sec Is because of the smaller platter, the amount of cache, the firmware installed and so on.

My computer is not recognizing the WD. The USB Port are working fine its recognizes other external devices

though very incomplete data abt ur system config..
however, u gotta know, is ur system compatible handling such..
some system needs the hdd controller driver or firmwire at the time of os install..(eg we press n select driver using F6 while in case of winXP*, in such case u need a floppy n floppy drive)..
bring ur ear closer to the hdd n make sure that it does not make any noise (like 'tuk tuk' or 'kirr kirr')..in such case itz probably gone bad n need to b replaced..
in some cases, if more than one hard disk r running, esp in case of PATA, look for jumper settings..(master/slave)..
in some cases, if more than one hard disk r running, esp in case of PATA+SATA, look for bios settings if is in native/compatible/enhanced mode, try fixing as necessary..
if ur nt a professional, contact ur system admin/vendor....

I have intel DG31PR mother board and samsung SATA HDD and i installed windowsXP. Actually it was working fine for the last two months. But now the BIOS does not detect the HDD.

If the HDD isn't detected, this means either the HDD has failed or the disk controller has failed.
Most likely the HDD has failed, remove the drive and test it in another computer as a slave drive, if the other computer can see the drive and the files then the drive is OK and the fault is the motherboard/controller.
Alternately you can also test the HDD with a USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port, if the computer sees it as an external drive and the files then the HDD is OK.

Only one drive showing out of two

Hi the cable ribbon is color coded. the blue should be connected to motherboard and the gray is a slave and the black is master. Check if you have this connected properly. If you got a Cable ribbon not color coded. The cable ribbon from motherboard connector about a 12 inches long from middle slave connector and 6 inches to the master connector. If this is not connected properly and HDD is not assign slave and master most likely the OS can not detect the HDD. The other way to check is to access your bios setup if the slave and master HDD is detect. Your PC have a capability of plug and play if you connect the hardware right and load the driver. Hope this info will help you to solve the problem.
