Hi Tammy, this can only be done if the load is not critical....
If load is critical then shut it down first.
On bypass you will be getting one beep every min or so
Try pressing the inverter on button, there should be a single beep, and then if all is well the inverter will come back on line. All leds will then be green.
Suggest once working that it be checked to see if it will still support load during outage.
If this does not work then please post again.
In the manual there is pages of fault diagnostics which may assist, if you don't have the manual it can be downloaded from the Emerson website.
