Windows XP2 to Windows XP3? HELP!

I have service pack 2 and im thinking to upgrading it to server pack 3 because I have lots of problem with service pack 2. For ex. My control panel in the add and remove program. All programs don't show. And other things I am having problems with. If I update will it be better and fix my problems? Also I'm kinda confused. Well I tried to check the update thing and it tells me to close all open programs and back up my system. If I don't back up my system, will my files, games, etc. be there still? Thanks

    Thank you guys.

    @AKeech
Link doesn't work and when I do install and run what do I do after?

    @Ekse
It says SP3 is 66MB-100MB something. Will it really take up space? Also I have tried this one program but It only shows programs installed on Add/Remove Programs and does not show hidden programs. So CCleaner must be the same. But I'll give it a shot.

    Thanks again guys.

    Question...

SP2 will replace SP3 right? So it will take out SP2 space and add SP3 MB space into my system?

Well I can tell you your issues with All programs and Control Panel not displaying are only caused by 2 things. One is a corporate IT department preventing you from accessing that functionality of your system and two is a virus known as "Virus Alert". Check out next to your time and instead of AM or PM it will show "VIRUS ALERT!!!". Download Dial-a-Fix (http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Dial-a-fix) and run the Fix Policies in the bottom left hand corner. This will fix your control panel and your ability to install/uninstall programs. The All Programs is a bit trickery but let me know if you want to try to fix it.

Just close all your programs and then do the update, I did it few days ago on another computer and it went just fine. All your files will be there. try CCleaner to uninstall those programs that don't show up n there www.ccleaner.com

I can not login and the page will not load and email images will not download?

Microsoft have now dropped support for Windows XP, some users will no longer be able to login if they only have Service Pack 2, this is down to security upgrades that are not supported with this service pack.
In order to correct the problem you need to install Service Pack 3, as you can no longer do this through Windows/Microsoft Update you need to download it directly to your computer, use the link below to get SP3.

Tip

What Does It Mean When Support for My Operating System Ends?

Microsoft Support for Windows Vista (with no service packs installed) ended on April 13, 2010, while support for Windows XP (without Service Pack 3 installed) ended on July 13, 2010. Windows 2000 support ended on July 13, 2010 as well.
There is no Service Pack 3 for the 64-bit version of Windows XP. If you're running the 64-bit version of Windows XP with SP2, you have the latest service pack and will continue to be eligible for support and receive updates until April 8, 2014.
If you are still running a version of Windows where support has ended, it means that version of Windows will no longer receive any updates from the Windows Update or Microsoft Update site. These updates are generally provided for security reasons to help protect the PC from harmful viruses, spyware, malware, and other malicious software. Windows Update also provides new drivers for your hardware that can improve the reliability of Windows.
Hackers love to take a security vulnerability in Windows and exploit it to their advantage. So, if a vulnerability is found in Windows XP or Windows Vista and you are not running the latest service pack, you will not be protected and will be at risk.

How Can I Tell What Service Pack is Installed?
Follow these steps to discover what Service Pack is installed:
1) Click on the Start Button
2) Right-click on either My Computer or Computer (depending on your Windows version)
3) Click on Properties
On this window, it should tell you which version of Windows along with which service pack is installed). It should also tell you whether you are running a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows.

I want to migrate windows xp2 to windows xp3 plz help to me what is the procedure

All you have to do is to download Service Pack 3 from Microsoft.
You can find the download page here.

Make sure you are choosing the correct language for your system (default is English).
The download is about 350MB, so it will take a while.

Once it is downloaded, just double-click the installer file (WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe) and install Service Pack 3.

Ideally you don't have any other programs running at the time.
Follow the on-screen instructions and wait until it is finished (depending on your system up to 20 minutes), then restart your computer.

Done!

If you any more questions, just come back here an leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

On March 6, 2008 Microsoft released Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP. Service Pack 3 contains all of the important Windows updates from previous service packs as well as additional updates that were released after Service Pack 2. To install Windows XP Service Pack 3 from the Internet on a home desktop computer use the Windows Update feature. CAUTION: If you have an HP Pavilion, HP Media Center or Compaq Presario desktop computer that has an AMD processor, your PC might encounter a startup problem after installing SP3 (or SP3 will not download from Windows Update). Before attempting to install SP3, install sp37394 - Microsoft Windows XP SP3 Upgrade Utility for systems with AMD processors . May 12th, 2008: Some customers reported problems installing Studio Plus version 11 UPGRADE (11.0) or Studio version 11 Standard (11.0) on systems with Windows XP Service Pack 3 was already installed (a message asking for Windows XP Service Pack 2 is displayed). Pinnacle is investigating this problem.
We can offer you the following workaround:
  • Copy all the content of the Installation DVD of Studio version 11 to your hard disk in a new folder.
  • Download http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/Studio11/WelcomeSP3.exe
  • Copy the file WelcomeSP3.exe to the root of the directory where the Installation DVD was copy
  • Double-click on WelcomeSP3.exe to launch it. It will take few seconds and then the Studio version 11 installation will start.

I need to upgrade my computer to pack2

Ok :-) I am assuming that you mean Windows XP service pack 2? Well if you do you should go to this link and download it from here http://www.soft32.com/download_992.html But to tell you the truth If you haven't downloaded service pack 2 yet. You have ALOT of other software to download and install. And Im pretty sure that they just came out with a windows Xp service pack 3. If you want to download that other software you should go to Microsoft Windows Update
