Flash-Off Problem Hey, I have a problem with my Olympus Stylus 500. When I turn off the flash and take pictures, they are never focused. How can I fix it so when I take pictures with flash off, it looks normal? Thanks in advance.

How do you check to see if it is in auto mode or manual mode?

Do you have the camera in the auto mode?
Did you check to make sure that the auto focus is not in the manual mode when the flash is turned off?

If the above does not comply, call the tech support for the camera.

There is also a possibity that there is a defect, or that the flash is part of the auto focus function.

Olympus E-510 Flash & Auto-Focus Problems

Sounds like the main circuit board has got problems. If its under warranty use the manufacturer. But if not a camear store should be able to provide a quote. I admit that the repair will be about 150-180 because of the time involved in replacing the board and possibly the flash unit.
But quotes before bankruptcy..

Flash problems

Hey emeffem,
What is most likely causing this is that the flash is set to off which would be symbolized by a lightening bolt sign crossed out. Directions on how to turn it back on are on page 13 of your camera manual. I have included a link to a PDF download of your camera manual in case you no longer have it. I hope this helps!

Blurry and out of focus

Hey ammarhazem,
What is most likely the cause of your blurry pictures is that the on camera flash is not powerful enough to provide light coverage to your subject and the movement of your subject is causing the blurry images. Another problem I see is that you are shooting in Program mode, because in program mode you should have no control over the aperture and if your subject is far away and you are using the on camera flash you would want as wide of an aperture as you can get. I would shoot in aperture priority where you can choose the aperture and the camera sets the shutter for you and I would also invest in a more powerful hotshoe mounted flash. In regards to your red eye problem it is probably due to the distance of your subject from the flash also. How red eye reduction works is the flash fires a # of times prior to the exposure to shrink the pupils so the flash doesn't reflect of the subjects retina which produces the red eye problem. A hotshoe mounted flash would also solve this problem because the angle of the flash would not be as parallel to the lens as the on camera flash would be. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

OLYMPUS 410

It is something that seems to be a problem with the Stylus 410s. Olympus will not repair them unless they are under warrenty, I've tried. My best advice, and what I am in the midst of myself (I have 2 of these with the same problem) is to file with the BBB. Perhaps if enough complaints come through, they will begin to fix the stylus 410 defect as they should. Good luck. =)
