My son has a 95' toyota camry; the problem is when he depresses the clutch it stays on the floor. He can manually pull it up an it goes in gear, is there a return spring or is it something else? Have bled the line, peddle still won't return on it own.

Hi,
Looks like a clutch master problem.
You have to replace the clutch master assembly, but you could try first to replace the clutch master repair cap kit( the parts inside can only be replace ) that'll be cheaper, but if the cylinder is already worn you have to buy the assembly.
Bleed it thoroughly afterwards, usually when you replace a new master the slave will give way....so better buy that one down there.

Hope that helped you out!

2008 toyota Camry manual hard shifting from 1st to 2nd gear

With the engine off see if the shift between 1st to 2nd feel,s free if not it could be the cable check the clutch is disengageing all the way it should go into reverse without crunching, other then that it could be a synchro ring worn check that the gearbox has the right oil in it.

2001 Camry 5 speed. It starts but it will not move. I can change gears without pushing in clutch. One mechanic said it was clutch and a different one said transmission is out. Which is it?

The clutch is not transferring power to the gearbox, which then is not turning, so that you can select gears without the clutch.Possibilities are
- clutch assembly has failed, possibly by the splined driven plate hub coming adrift
- clutch driven plate has become very worn and has lost contact
- slave cylinder has stuck through corrosion (assuming a hydraulic clutch) and is holding out the clutch independent of the pedal. This can be determined by watching it while someone depresses and raises the pedal.

I think it is unlikely the transmission input shaft has fractured.

Hi there, the clutch pedal has been depressed to the floor and won't return out and therefore engaging gears on this 1994 manual Camry is proving to be a challenge, could it be a broken cable and if so,...

Before I can give you a correct answer I really need to know mileage and if you have ever replaced clutch, clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder...You can do a quick look under driver side dash and see if clutch pedal return spring is broken or disconnected...Look at the top of the pedal...Also look under hood while you are at it and check clutch master cylinder for fullness..also check for any leaks from behind master cylinder ..?.There are different things to cause this.....Please send more info unless you see your problem..If you see something wrong I will be happy to guide you through a repair...Thanks..

1994 Toyota Camry clutch goes to the floor and stays there what would be the problem for that, and is there an easy fix

Sounds like the clutch slave might be the issue. You should be able to find it on the front of the transmission. Peal back the rubber boot and see if brake fluid drips out. If there is fluid behind the boot than it is leaking. You can also look up under the dash to see it the clutch master is leaking. It will leave a brake fluid trail from where the metal rod goes in. If either of those are leaking than your clutch fluid reservoir is likely empty. You can find it under the hood just to the drivers side of the brake fluid reservoir. After you have replaced the leaking parts fill the reservoir with new brake fluid and bleed the system. Make sure you keep the reservoir full while you are bleeding. You should be back in business when you are done!

1992 Toyota Camry - Burnt Out Clutch

yes, you should change the clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing (if equipped), and have the flywheel "surfaced". Usually, the clutch disc, pressure plate, and throw out bearing can be obtained as a packaged set or "kit". I would also check the clutch slave cylinder and master cylinder for leaks. Changing the clutch is a big expensive job when done by a shop and is a difficult (but less expensive) job for a do-it-yourselfer---even for somebody with the right tools at hand. Probably why the car was a gift. But if that is all that is wrong, you are still getting a good bargain!

Clutch pedal stays on floor when released

check the helper spring on the clutch pedal. You'll have to get down in the driver's footwell and using a flashlight look at the mechanism while you push the pedal down (and pull up). If the spring isn't missing or broken and everything looks okay, then change the clutch master cylinder. The piston in the cylinder is probably binding due to corrosion in the bore. I have an 1986 and had the same problem. Changing the clutch master cylinder fixed it.

1989 Toyota Camry

Hi,

On an 89 Toyota Camry with manual transmission, two possible reasons:
  • clutch;
  • release bearing
Try bleeding the clutch on the slave cylinder. If this does not prove to be corrective, you may have to have the transmission/clutch checked/repaired/replaced. In some instances, it could just be a sticking release bearing or clutch fork.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

2000 honda accord clutch problems

There is air in the system. The slave cylinder does provide pressure to return the pedal. Check to be sure that you have plenty of fluid in the master cylinder (clutch). Slowly work the pedal back and forth to try and remove air. (This usually works unless you have really lost all fluid. Once the air is remove depress the clutch while in gear. If it does not keep the car from moving then replace the slave and master cylinder. The parts are a little over $100. Hope this helps. I have one in the shop right now as a matter of fact...
